If the B12 remains intact and moves forward

Question: can streaking servces, unlike TV networks, accurately monitor the extra number of devices watching each advertisement placed in live streaming content? Would that lead to payouts based on how well the content delivered eyeballs? I wonder if a any potential conference/college streaming...

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

Do you know for sure B1G people were present or where they folks like Wanny who do Big Ten games? I'm not sure conference people who might be in the know on conference expansion plans would be at a preseason meeting of television play-by-play guys and color analysts. I think it more likely...

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

Thanks. Just completing the thought: the reason your research ("your" as broadly applied to all ISU research work by you and others) most importantly adds to the knowledge base, but also covers your salary and some of the wages of others in your department which the grant application says work...

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

Thanks for that additional knowledge. Question to further understand: When you seek that $10 million outside grant and list assistance from, say PSU people, as a part of that application, do you list a dollar value in the proposal that will be paid to the PSU researcher? I realize it is part of...

Pac-12 to decide whether to expand within a couple weeks

The college sports model is soon dead.

Throwing this out there at the risk of being mocked, but college women's wrestling is going to be a thing. It's a chance for ISU to build on one of the historic strengths.

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

Oh, I have no doubt hockey at ISU would be mega-popular and an arena would packed and crazy. Super crazy and fun. Think Hilton on steroids crazy fun. But it's a mega-buck investment. If you get BTN, I think those hockey games are televised on Friday nights. Huge, noisy crowds all over that...

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

I should have noted Penn State had a successful club hockey before starting the D1 program. D1 is a whole other level. I think only one of the "Icers" club team members made the D1 roster. Unless there is a motivated donor, it's a lot of money that I would image ISU's athletic department can...

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

Hockey is very expensive. Penn State started a D1 hockey program 10 years ago. PSU built a new hockey arena and endowed scholarships for men's and women's teams. It took a donation north of $200 million from an alum (now the owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabers) to get it done.

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

from end of Thamel story. (Not good) Big Ten unlikely to expand Perhaps the most notable big-picture takeaway was that the Big Ten appears committed to not expanding. Obviously, nothing was signed. But it’s hard to believe that the presidents and chancellors would agree to this extended Kumbaya...

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

The lesson from the Nebraska/Rutgers/Maryland experience with BTN buy-ins: negotiate a firm dollar amount rather than accepting a decreased percentage of years of conference payouts to “buy-in.” As the amount of TV payments has increased the “buy-in” reduction percentage has been applied against...

IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

This is the time of year when sports networks get their play by play and color guys on TV broadcasts together to discuss rule changes and changes in network production. Just a guess: Fox Sports had their football guys together in Phoenix. Wannstedt identifies guys from TV broadcasting crews...

What is standing in the way of that collaboration today? Universities collaborate on all kinds of research across conference now, don’t they? There is nothing in the B1G research rules that prevent i

Pac-12 to decide whether to expand within a couple weeks

From what I can glean, Missouri was unsettled by Texas AD DeLoss Dodds obnoxious comments about fellow conference members. He once said Texas worst year was better than Missouri’s best year. In the 10 years which followed Missouri won more games in the SEC than Texas won the in the Big 12 But...

Pac-12 to decide whether to expand within a couple weeks

I think the timing was different with MU done with B1G or the B1G was done with MU before Nebraska got the golden ticket. But I could be wrong In any case, Missouri isn’t going to the B1G, even though it would be a better cultural fit there than the SEC. Missouri doesn’t have the recruiting...

Pac-12 to decide whether to expand within a couple weeks

Missouri’s last attempted dance with the B1G ended on a very bad note. And, of course, there are two sides to the story: Background: A group of influential Kansas City alums, unhappy from the start with the Texas-dominated Big 12, had been pushing Missouri toward the Big Ten since the early...
