CF New Site "Builds" - Long-Ago Promised Enhancements

(No this isn't the big site announcement.)

Beginning this weekend, I'll be implementing a new way of introducing features and enhancements to the site. From now on, features and enhancements will be introduced using "builds" so I can work on several different "things" at the same time while only affecting the site a minimal number of times. I've noticed as I've looked through some of my files that enhancements that I promised long ago never made it onto the site and I haven't had a good way of organizing my work up to this point.

Sometime this weekend, I'll take the site down for about an hour to upgrade the site to be able to handle this new system-update method. This first new build of the site will incorporate a few small long-ago promised enhancements, mostly to the recent threads section, such as...

- Links/Icons on the recent post section to take you to your first unread post in the given thread
- Bolding of only unread threads in the recent post section
- Better thread icon handling in the recent posts section
- Links to multiple pages in recent threads section
- Updated and more efficient coding for faster page loads
- A new welcome block on the frontpage with user info
- A new mini calendar on the frontpage with game info
- Better integration of the side-bar throughout the site
- An experimental alternate "news-like" frontpage option

- Bigger new feature:
If you copy and paste a correctly formatted URL to a YouTube, GoogleVideo or other streaming video, it will now be automatically formatted to include the actual video in the post rather than just a link to it. This will only work on new posts and will only work when you submit a new post, not edit an existing post.

Again, this may seem like a pretty small thing to most people but it should help me make more changes to the site in a much quicker manner. Not to mention, this should help with any future announcements that may be forthcoming:)

Hmmm...I'm looking forward to the changes. Some of the items you listed are very interesting.

Since it IS going to be asked, I'll be the guinea pig....When is the big site announcement scheduled to be released???

Hey, neat. Thanks, Jeremy! (As a reminder to those of you who would undoubtedly gripe about the YouTube thing- YouTube/GoogleVideo/Metacafe videos do not load until you click on them! So even if somebody puts five videos in their post, those of you with slower internet connections aren't going to have your computer freeze up because of it. Just don't click on all five at once.)

He's already said it will happen around July 4.

He's already said it will happen around July 4.

That is a very good reminder:) I know people love the videos at those places and quite often they have ISU related clips so I thought it may be useful to see them on CF rather than having to follow the trail of links. We'll see how useful it is, that part "should" be active right now so I'm going to put up a test post...

Heck no, I've been trying to prevent you from being able to for a long time now

Actually I'm expecting that will be fixed this weekend as well as some other small quirks.
