OT forum display change

I know there are some people that don't like seeing all the OT threads, and I have something of a compromise - could we maybe have it changed so that OT threads aren't immediately visible on the frontpage? There are 8 threads with the newest posts displayed on the cyclonefanatic.com main page. Currently there are 5 OT threads displayed, 2 on the Ticket controversy, and one on the Sammy Hill article from Cyclones.com. I wouldn't mind having them relegated to the New Posts section or people having to purposly go to the OT section to read them. Thanks,

BC

Re: OT forum display change

I wouldn't mind it as long as it were configurable, or an option in the User CP.

I like seeing the responses pop up, but understand why others don't.

In any case, come the end of the month and in to August, you'll see the numbers of OT topics decrease dramatically. We are in the "silly season".

I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide

They only pop up if they have the most recent activity. That would seem to indicate that the masses are interested.

Re: OT forum display change

Who cares? Once FB season starts up the OT stuff will die down. Right now there is little going on sports related. We've beaten the predictions to death, we debate the Capital City League all the time and the Iowa/ISU tickets are once again getting beat to death so OT stuff is going to dominate a little more right now.

FB season is less than 2 months away, once August gets here I'm sure new FB threads will be popping up daily and pushing the OT stuff out of the way.

No kidding. I can't believe people really get their panties in a bunch. Just click on whatever forum you want in the left navigation.

I second the forum display change idea. I actually read the OT threads quite frequenty, but I think a passer by might be confused when OT threads dominate the front page. I think it would be a change that is less about accomodating the "I hate OT threads" crowd and more about the potential CF user, passer by. My two cents.

I'd vote against a hard coded change to not display the OT topics somewhere.

If anything, make it an option so members can choose. There is a large number of CF members that do want to see them.

OT stuff is pretty much all that is going on right now (and thankfully so)
I say keep it.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

I'd have to agree. It's summer and there isn't much going on. I'm sure the OT will die down once the season gets here. Just 8 weeks from Thursday!!!

I like the off topic stuff, especially because in the spring and summer there is no "on topic" stuff.

That would be a great idea, if it's possible, to be able to select in the user CP or something the option to have no display of OT threads. That would be great, then everybody could be happy.

My panties aren't in a bunch by the way. I'd just prefer not to see the the threads, and I know there isn't that much to talk about right now, but I don't come to CycloneFanatic to talk about politics, the same way I don't go to CNN and talk ISU.

I've been working on a revamped user options area where you could state what forums you want to show up in the recent topics area but I'm not done with it yet. Hopefully once I get some free time after the umm... announcement, I'll get to finish it:)

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Ya know Bryce... how are we supposed to spread the word Cy with an attitude like this. I think maybe you should go to CNN and discuss the Cyclones. I think I might start doing so if I can find free time. Sunday's I go to worship at Jack Trice. Usually I'm holding a Cyclone Media Guide Study at my apartment on Thursday nights (we're always looking for new faces if anybody wants to come). And on Tuesdays I attend a session for renewing my Faith in Hilton Magic. And twice a year I always get re-baptized because I was born with sin (My dad's a Hawkeye fan (he was born right by Iowa City)) I know getting baptized twice a year seems like overkill... but hey... I don't want to take any chances you know. But back on topic... I think talking ISU on CNN would really help to preach the word of Cy.
