I have had problems also, just when I first get on then it seems to speed up.

I have seen some too, but usually only when I am posting a bookie event. That probably has to do a lot of sql, so I kinda expect it.

I think I see it most is when I'm quoting somebody or jumping to first unread. If I just jump to the front page it doesn't seem to lag.

I've had some lag occasionally, and now that you mention it, brianhos, it happens mainly when I am placing a bet on CyBookie.
I also had a database error pop up yesterday, too.

I have Iowa Telecom, too, 2020 - our internet has been slooooow lately. I'll recycle the power on my modem, and it seems to help for a little while.
