Re: Cyclone Fanatic Expectations

I should have been specific that I had a source other than CR when discussing the recruit info. I feel had I gone that route though, I would have been accused of lying and tabbed a "CR info thief". Damned if you do, damned if you don't. That thread was doomed from the start - no matter if I participated or not. That's speculation by myself of course.

I first caught wind of it via CR - that I won't deny. Yet I was quickly informed of the commit from a different source, unrelated to CR.

Regardless, I apologize for any part I had in escalating the situation.

Sounds good, I think most understand. Like everything on any website, it's just subject to everybody's interpretation and understanding of the events. I think we all want to keep from posting info from other sites and when the timing on when somebody posts something elsewhere and it gets posted here is so short, it really creates a lot of room for tension to grow.

As long as we all agree we like to keep things on the high road, we'll have a great time sharing info and opinions while having a ton of fun along the way.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Whats hard is knowing what info is ok to share, and what is not. The recruits and coaching hires are tough ones to talk about until they are completely public. Obviously this would all be new unreleased info that most members and people of the public do no know about.

Now, the headline on the Tampa 2 that was wrote up, I feel was a great story to share. Its already public, but just a story written for premium members. As long as their is no stealing of journalism involved, that subject and others like it could really entertain members on every site.

Re: Cyclone Fanatic Expectations

I have a serious question for the CR, CN subscribers: Why do you have your subscription? I'm not being facetious here either. You pay $100 per year to get information you can get hours or a day later. Is it the magazine?

I've never subscribed to either nor have I really been interested in doing so, so I'm just curious that's all.

Guitarchitect, why do you think you know what informaiton is OK to share and what is not to share. I think it was said before that this is a post and people have their right to speak freely.

I started a premium membership at CN over a year ago. This was before CF. The main reasons for my decisions were, a message board to talk with cyclone fans without any trolls from the east, any questions you have about content or recruiting were answered fairly rapidly, and once Chris and Brent came on board, the articles and info I couldn't find better elsewhere. Time will tell with a shifting of personal.
The better question is why do people donate money here? I did it because if the people getting the service didn't support CF, it might not be around.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I loved CN - the content and insider info Chris and Brent provided was second to none.

My renewal for CN is up in March. If it were today, I wouldn't be renewing. I'll stick around to see what happens.

Re: Cyclone Fanatic Expectations

What's funny is I have several friends on both CR and CN and everyone of them copy and paste stuff off of the websites and email them to me and others. Information gets out from tons of sources and if you think that CR and CN are a secret club where information can be contained, I have some land for you to buy in Alaska. Show me any info of importance that ever came out on CR or CN that was not had by most of cyclone nation within a couple of hours. If you want to pay to belong and get your information, than more power to you. But no one can argue the fact that everyone is going to get the information. And Jeremy doesn't steal any of this, he just brings a great site for Cyclones to come and talk together in. And just like a group of Cyclones at the water cooler, you are going to get one or two people that have talked to someone from CN or CR or some other source and will tell you the same thing. So CF is just like a big Water Cooler conversation and I LOVE IT!!! Thanks Jeremy and keep up the good work!!!

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

It's getting to the point where these arguments are taking place so frequently, it's taking the fun out of reading the threads.

The purpose of this discussion board is for the spread of information and opinions of fellow Cyclone fans. As mentioned, more people than just Paul and Jeremy have sources. If someone learns something through a legitimate source, they should be allowed to share it with the rest of us without fearing the wrath of McCarthyism knocking at their door.

Now, let's talk about this 4-star rumored recruit. Does anybody know his name yet?
Great Post. I AGREE Completely! There is always more sources of information that just a couple of pay sites.

Re: Cyclone Fanatic Expectations

Speaking of stealing paid info, we see lots of free info on both boards just by reading headline message board captions, football and basketball committs, other school boards, websites (CFN, CBS sports, ESPN, Foxsports, CNSI, NBC), we hear rumors from people and listen to talk sports radio which lets lots of good info out of the bag. When info shows up here, it is much like the same info can arrive from many different directions. Yes, I am tired also of people ******** it is stolen info when it probably is not stolen unfairly. Tinme to move on for this subject. This is a discussion board with personal opinions and observations.

Since scouts and rivals have paid sites for most schools in the nation and there arte similar sites to this one for every school, this ragiong debate about stealing info must be a nationwide Clue of Who Did What to Whom in what Room.Again, time to move on. Better to talk about sports than who ripped whom off. And yes, we want to know who is visiting in January as potentil recruits. Speaking of info, Bobby Knight is still trying . 30 of his past buddies including Alford were left at the altar in Vegas last night. Sorta funny.

Re: Cyclone Fanatic Expectations

I subscribe to CR because I believe in supporting someone who is making his living following the Cyclones. He does it in a professional way, and doesn't tease us or trip over himself posting bad info too early (it happens other places). I don't like Deace, so I don't go to CN. I come HERE to read some good discussions on diverse topics with a different sort of fanbase (younger IMO).

I can also easily afford to do it. If someone thinks $6-$9/month is too much (which frankly boggles my mind) then they should probably be looking into some further education or a little less time on the internet and more time at work anyway! :)

It's pretty obvious that people read a "premium" post at CR or CN and then google that info until they can come up with a public link to post at a free board. Sh*t happens I guess. I choose to pay for it and support a man's family. So be it!

Go Cyclones!

Re: Cyclone Fanatic Expectations

You look at as a good thing to support a man that makes money on promoting ISU.

I think it's great to support a website where the owner makes no money in this full-time "hobby".

I won't criticize folks for being premium members - as of right now I am one on CN. However, I won't buy into the notion that premium members are better fans, more educated, etc.

That's been proven time and time again to not be the norm.

Plus - where is an extra $99 more well spent? On an ISU message board or donated to the program? I know for a fact there are some heavy donors on this very site many look down upon.

I completely understand and respect your decision to subscribe to these services. However, just because someone doesn't want to pay $9/month doesn't mean they need to get a better job to make more money to afford it.

Personally, I wouldn't pay $2/month for it. That's just my personal choice. Why? Because if I wait 2 hours to 2 days, I will have the info anyway. I liken it to buying a PS3 or Nintendo Wii on ebay now. You are paying a lot higher price to get it a little earlier but if you wait, you can get it at regular price.

Also, I can think of about 39485 better ways of spending $100 per year...like giving it to the National Cyclone Club which actually benefits Iowa State University.
