As it is right now with ads & donations, we're breaking even so the increase could really throw some kinks into things as I've already invested personal money towards other features and enhancements for the site. I've got two options at this point; 1 - pay the increased fee that would make the site somewhat of a hindrance for me as I have some other expenditures right now (aka buying a new house) or 2 - move to a new hosting company. The new hosting company route wouldn't be bad because I already have something in mind that would actually give us the latest Quad Core machine for the same price we're paying now, allowing us to be more stable and give us more room for growth. The only downside would be the site would be down for a couple hours some weekend and a few issues could always arise for a few days, however, I already have measures in place to get around the IP address issues we've had in the past. We would also finally get rid of some issues we're currently having where several Qwest customers can't access CF due to IP conflicts at the current host. So I guess what it boils down to is; the new hosting company is a pretty premium company with the best support and bandwidth in the industry so it would mean a long-term commitment to keeping CF growing and thriving. If the community believes that can happen, I'll take the plunge. If that's not possible, then I have to look for other options. Any feedback? |

Go for the new hosting company. Sounds like a win/win.

new hosting company. no question. If the site is down for minutes, hours, days, i will survive. If its easier for you and good for the project as a whole, I am for it.

Everyone here appreciates what you've done with Cyclone Fanatic. Since I live about 2,000 miles away from Ames, I don't have access to the latest news about Cyclone athletics. I usually check this board a few times a day to get updates on what's going on, and I definitely appreciate the service.
Personally, I don't think you should go into your own pocket to provide an essentially free service to this community. If the site's down for a few hours to provide growth for the future, that's no big deal either. Basically, do what works best for you. And thanks again for Cyclone Fanatic.

Like others have said, go with the new hosting company, it's a no brainer.

Go to the new company. Recruit help from current members who do this for a living to help you (I can help).
If this were 5 years ago, I would host your site in my server room for free, but alas, we are now a public company so those types of perks are gone.

Yeah, seems like an easy decision to move the site elsewhere.

Jeremy based on the responses I get the impression that either myself or others are misinterpreting your choices.
My understanding is that the new Company is the one that will cost you personally but will allow for growth.
The second alternative that costs less would be a step back in terms of host.
My advice would be to take the less expensive option unless or until funding becomes available to pursue the higher cost/bandwidth option.

New hosting company. Football news is a little slow right now anyway. This way you can have it moved to the bigger more stable machines, soaked, and have the kinks worked out by opening night.

CF is the best source for ISU athletics that I have found living out here on the West Coast. I appreciate the site immensely and plan do donate at some point when I have a financial upswing!!

Jeremy...
Looks like a consensus: go with the new hosting co. I think we can all like without CF for a short time if necessary. Do you think you'd have it transferred by opening night?
As always, keep up the great work. I greatly appreciate all you do for us Cyclone Fanatics! | |

Yep, go with the consensus. I, for one, will be extremely pleased if it solves the Qwest DSL problem!
Thanks for all you do!

Back up the U-Haul and move on up to a deluxe apartment in the sky Jeremy, your constituency demands it.
