Are you using the "New Posts" option in the forum menu? If so, currently opting in/out doesn't do anything to that, it still shows all posts.

With the nature and the rhetoric involved with the Instate and Political boards I understand them being opt in. Fierce arguements are the norm and they can frequently serve just to **** people off.
That argument can't be made for Gaming. Its not as if the main page gets bombarded by Gaming threads either, typically no more than 2, maybe 3 will be listed(2 at the moment: Diablo 3 and a Mafia thread). Seems very arbitrary to make it opt in and not doing the same to Off Topic, for instance.

I agree. Whereas the CyBookie threads take up the whole page...

It's a free site...you will survive.
So long as I don't get pop-ups or malware you can do whatever the hell you want with the site.
Re: GAMING & GROUPS THREAD - Will have to opt-in starting Monday
Sorry guys. It's impossible to please everybody.

If not opt-in.
I would have no problem with football either.
Its the Tennessee Tech v. Western Kentucky Field Hockey threads that bug me.

Now you're just making stuff up.

Thats kind of the problem right now. For the main page, you can't 'opt-in' at all. Its just gone unless you separately check the subforum pages. For the new post pages, you can't 'opt-out' (i dont think... i'm currently opted in to both)
If we could make it so the forums you are opted in to showed up on the main forum page, that would be a big improvement.
Understand its hard to please all, just my view on it.

Snarky posts like this are clearly warranted when someone has an opinion on a topic of discussion, on a forum for opinions no less! I did not threaten to never post again, file a lawsuit, hunt down Chris, or some other bit of hyperbole, merely that I disagreed with the decision and the rationale for my disagreement.

Yes, as that brings up new posts quicker than the other page. I guess I don't understand what the difference between the opt-in and opt-out buttons do. As I said, I'm opted out to the rivals and the politics, but I can still click on the subforum, read the posts, etc. In the other thread that cyguytillidie made, he showed a message that basically stated "You're not opted in, so you can't view this." I don't get that message even though I'm opted out.

I think that message cyguytillidie actually was a result of a problem with testing this new feature. Not something he was supposed to get. :)
Currently, the main functionality of opting out of something is that it doesn't show up on the main page if you click "forums" at the top of the site. It's about 50/50, in my experience, on if people use that and cruise through the forums manually, or if they use "New Posts."
There are also several forums I don't care about; I'm not all that interested personally in CyBookie, but I think it's great for the site (I'm just not a gambler). What I'll do when I come on is first go to that forum, and mark all as read. That keeps it out of my "New Posts." That's the only workaround I've found so far.
