I like the system of leaving feedback... it's a good feeling when somebody posts a private message to you saying they agree or like your post. But a number beneath my name really doesn't mean much to me.
I would just get rid of the number but leave the feature. It's the number people seem to complain most about. And as far as credibility... you learn who seems to have good info after awhile from what they post and what happens...

I'm on the fence between either getting rid of it all together or making some changes to it.

The number doesn't mean much, but the number of people that realize the genius I am is priceless. Now, if only I could get all those "idiots" that disagree with me to realize that as well... I'm a super hero of smarts, people! Let me sway your minds!

I don't post that much, so I think the rep points thing is practically worthless.

I'm for getting rep at an equal rate. If possible, try to brings things back to a more level ground. Does the database have a permanent record of all rep given? If so, it wouldn't be that hard to recalc everyone's rep.

I personally think the rep system still has some value because it's a rating that accumulates based on your peers BUT I also understand the problems of the system.
Please answer these questions and provide comments...
- Should the rep feature stay?
- Should the rep be handed out equally instead of higher ranked rep members having a greater impact on one's rep?
- What changes should be looked into?
I think it should stay for now, but maybe handed out equally.

Keep the ability to give positive or negative feedback, but don't put any value to it and don't keep track of any rep points.

I like the idea of capping it but otherwise leaving it as is.

To the average reader, the rep points mean nothing. It does provide an atmosphere of having an "in group" and the rest outsiders. I think it also encourages participants to blabber and make nothing comments. It adds too much chaff to the grain. I appreciate meaningful, thought out comments, that positively add to the topic being discussed. I enjoy the good info., but the blah-blah comments sometimes makes it frustrating reading.

I like the system overall as a means to add credibility and keep conversations somewhat in check. I wouldn't be opposed to converting rep back to a consistent number per rep given, if that is possible. Or start over, but give a trophy of some sort based on the level of rep achieved before the change over. Yes, I want a trophy. It's all about the trophy. | |
