I think CF is by far the best site for thread posting. I like the new ideas and developments that keep things interesting. However, I sense that there is an established few who seem to have a great amount of influence; I've noticed for example, that the exact same message can have 2 very different responses depending on the source. I know there are rules against intimidating and bullying, but generally I feel like an outsider on this site. Allowing more rep points to be given by hi rep users causes an exponential growth rate because they might be repping mostly between themselves; this just makes the occasional users feel even more left out.

Only way to not feel outside is to just start expressing yourself and soon you will be one of the influential people. We all started with 10 rep and 0 posts.

The rep system is that the biggest kool aid drinkers get the most reps...I dont have a problem with that but I gave a donation and then figured out the rep system and You wont get another donation from me...
Its just like all my relatives that went to isu and have never given a dime to iowa state..while I have given every year since I cannot remember but old Pollard doesnt want to give me any credit for that either.
Donations to cyfantatic bobby one ...bobby's relatives NONE
And they have a hell of a lot more reps than me
So be it

I personally think the rep system still has some value because it's a rating that accumulates based on your peers BUT I also understand the problems of the system.
Please answer these questions and provide comments...
- Should the rep feature stay?
- Should the rep be handed out equally instead of higher ranked rep members having a greater impact on one's rep?
- What changes should be looked into? the rep system is basically CF version of a good ol boys club. Those that have like opinions and/or know eachother continue to pat eachother on the back. Do what you want with it as I mostly ignore it until some idiot gives me negative rep with an #%$hole comment attatched.

I'd like to have more credits. My betting history tells the story behind that though.

This is a very valid comment. One that I don't think should be dismissed with "post more" and such. Not everyone has or is willing to spend the time many of us do on the site posting/reading. That doesn't make their opinions/posts any less valid or important that someone with a lot of posts.
I won't deny the fact that if someone with very few posts shows up on the site with some "insider info", that I don't completely buy it until some sort of track record is established. There are a couple members here with some good connections and well-respected now, that were questioned when they first started posting. It's the nature of the internet to not believe everything you read. I think with or without rep, that will happen. As long as it's respectful, I see no issues with expressing a bit of caution when reading/responding to a post from someone without much history.
Regardless, as I've noted before, rep is very watered down. I think I give out some ridiculous number over 50k if I give +/- rep to someone. That's insane and I really make a point of saving my - rep for those abusing the feature, constantly ranting/ripping on our teams/players, trolls, etc.
Some have suggested getting rid of rep (which I don't oppose) and using the CF credits to replace it. I do think we'd see a similar type of "abuse" or inflation if credits became a form of reputation. Jeremy has eluded to credits being used for more than just betting at some point. I think it would be unfair for members to lose credits at the hands of other members or be able to give credits back and forth to one another between members to ramp their numbers up.
I honestly don't know if there is a "perfect" system. I don't think the current system is broken/bad, I just think it could be enhanced by either capping rep in some way, getting rid of it all together or some other modification.

Is it fair to say that most posters would like it if rep values were handed out on an equal basis instead of being higher or lower based on the giver's rep? If so, that's and easy change to make and I think it would help even things out a lot.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

...and you could go a step further and reward late-comers like me and reset everyone's rep. However, I know if I weren't a late-comer and I'd worked to get my rep to where it is I'd be more than pissed if it was reset to "level the playing field". My two cents. I have no solutions, just opinions...

rep is pointless. it is the same people giving rep back to each other all day long. the same guys trying to make each other feel better about themselves.
there went my 4000 positive rep points. big deal.
