Re: CF: Slow News & Information Dissemination

We built a house in Ankeny almost 2 years ago, with only 10 feet of sod after our deck. The sod company wanted 1700 to finish the rest, .25 acre lot. We contacted another sod company and got it for $15 a for 10 square feet. It only cost us $500 to sod the rest. They only charged $25 for delivery too.

Tyler builds very nice stuff, I have been in a few of their houses, and a friend on mine had custom built by them. They are fantastic.

We had an addition built by peterson construction out of huxley. And when I build my new house in a few years, I am not even talking to anyone else, I am going right to peterson. There are not words that can express how happy I am with that company. Every step of the way was fantastic. I know a little about construction, and noticed lots of little things they did that were extra, things they just did not need to do, it was that little attention to details that impressed me the most.

Re: CF: Slow News & Information Dissemination

IMO, custom building is not near as expensive as what it used to be.

In fact, when we did our research last year around this time - deciding on whether to buy an older home, new spec home or custom build - custom financially made sense. It was a no brainier from there.

In the end, when the market isn't so flooded - we could easily sell our house for about $25-35k more than what we paid our builder. I'm not just going off assessed value.

We used Allegro Custom Homes. (link) We'd highly recommend them to anyone looking to build. Not only were they able to beat prices from the spec home builders and the 2 custom builders we looked at, they're service was great and we could always get a hold of them.

Through the custom process you'll change your mind on things frequently. They understand and embrace that. Plus, they are Cyclone fans - which is nice.

While a process that can test your patience, it was a lot of fun.
