IOWA VS IOWA STATE BY POSITION

For 2008:
QB ISU: Arnaud/Bates vs Christensen: Edge: EVEN (I'd take ours)
RB ISU: Rob/Scales/Bass vs ?? Edge: ISU
FB ISU: Catlett vs Williams Edge: EVEN
WR: ISU: Sumrall, Hamilton vs.Johnson/Cleveland Edge ISU
TE: ISU: Myers vs. Howe Edge: Iowa
OL: most back for both: Edge: Even to leaning ISU
DL: ISU: I sr gone, 2 for Iowa Edge: Iowa
LB: ISU both lose 2, Edge: Iowa
CB:ISU Bell/Singleton vs. Fletcher Edge: Even
S: ISU Smith vs Dahlton/Greenwood Edge: Iowa
Punters: EVEN
FG: Edge: Iowa
I may have screwed up on some of these, but that's what I have from the depth chart.

I'd take either Arnaud or Bates, and we haven't see Bates do anything at QB yet.

I've seen what JC can do, and if I work a hawk fan, I'd be scared.

He'll likely redshirt, and Catlett is listed at FB but is more of an H-back. In true FB situations Ekwelundu usually comes in.

Re: IOWA VS IOWA STATE BY POSITION

Iowa has recruited 3 QBs in the 2008 recruiting class - which to me means that the staff is thinking long and hard about the situation for next year. While I don't think JC was a terrible QB (his numbers would support this), he had a few good games, and then some really really REALLY bad ones.

I'd agree though, right now, with what we know, ISU has the edge in QB. But, that's about all we know right now - the RB situation at Iowa is still up in the air, with the possible return of Shonn Greene. The addition of a pretty powerful JUCO RB may help, and the addition of one or two others will make things interesting.

The matchup next season will be very interesting, and of course I'm going to give advantage Iowa - but it's way too early to make an education prediction, and with the way this rivalry has gone, anything is possible.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Iowa is going to have what, 8 QB's on scholarships?

Something like that. So you'd hope (or I would) that at least one of them is good.

Yeah SH with Iowa having the slight advantage this is shaping up to being our "Superbowl" again next year.

I wouldn't put too much stock in Greene being back. Doesn't sound like his roomie Albert is too high on that when asked.

Cbell

3 am in Iowa City 2006, hoping for the repeat this year.

As far as next year, it is in Kinnick, so anything can happen. It'd be a nice first road win for Gene.

I would take James Smith over Greenwood any day of the week at the safety position!

Home field is huge in these games..and with Iowa having another average season, they will blow the Iowa State game up into the game of the year. Nothing wrong with that. Just more emphasis will be put on it next year in my view.

Re: IOWA VS IOWA STATE BY POSITION

Here is my take. I think you need to move a couple guys around.

QB ISU: Arnaud vs Christensen: Edge: ISU
Physically they are failry similar QB's, but JC lacks the 'moxy' AA brings

RB ISU: ARob vs ?? Edge: Huge ISU
Iowa doesn't have a proven back on their roster right now.

FB ISU: Ekwelundu vs Williams Edge: EVEN
BE is our true FB. I also look for Means to see some time here.

WR: ISU: Sumrall, Hamilton vs.Johnson/Cleveland Edge ISU
ISU has much more experience here than Iowa.

TE: ISU: Catlett vs. Myers Edge: ISU
We won't see a drop off here at all, not a knock on Barkema, but Catlett is that good. Colin Franklin is our other guy here.

OL: most back for both: Edge: ISU
Iowa's offensive line let Christenson get put on his back like Meyer in 06.

DL: ISU: I sr gone, 2 for Iowa Edge: Iowa
Agreed, this is ISU's weakest position for sure

LB: ISU both lose 2, Edge: Even
We have a bunch of young, athletic guys in the wings who all have plenty of game time under their belt, but Iowa has some young talented guys of their own.

CB:ISU Bell/Singleton vs. Fletcher Edge: ISU
Bell and Singleton will be a fantastic duo next year, while Iowa loses both their starters.

S: ISU Smith vs Dahlton/Greenwood Edge: Even
Smith came on at the end of the year, but Iowa has some impressive young guys at this postion.

Punters: ISU
Iowa's punter was terrible last year

FG: Edge: Iowa
We need a kicker

I know this looks like I am being a homer, but I jsut don't see any position on the field where Iowa has a clear advantage, while I see plenty of places where ISU has the edge.
