Hawkeye football player Myers arrested
By TOM WITOSKY Register Staff Writer December 26, 2007
Iowa football player Brandon Myers has pleaded guilty to public intoxication and interference with official acts, court records show.
Myers, a 22-year-old junior tight end from Prairie City, caught 21 passes this season for 208 yards including five touchdown passes as the replacement for injured tight end Tony Moeaki. Myers was the fourth-leading pass catcher during the recently completed 2007 season and finished as the third-leading scorer.
Court records show that Coralville police arrested Myers early Sunday morning on a charge of public intoxication as well as one charge of interference with official acts. He pleaded guilty to both counts on the same day and was fined a total of $350.
Court records say that Myers fled the scene of a fight on foot at 12:06 a.m. near the Walgreens Drug Store in Coralville. After being caught by police, Myers acknowledged that he attempted to avoid arrest, records say.

The police report also says that Myers when tested for alcohol at the scene had a blood alcohol content of .12. In Iowa, the legal limit to operate a vehicle is .08. Myers is the 12th member of the 2007 football team arrested or cited by police this year. Two players Clint Huntrods and Dana Brown were dismissed from the team following their arrests. The remaining players were suspended from the team and either remain suspended, transferred to another school, or have been reinstated.
Kirk Ferentz, Iowas head football coach, declined comment through an athletic department spokesman.
