Why would they? They just fired a coach who won a Super Bowl for them and they would want to replace him with a coach that is about .500 in his college coaching career? I don't think so!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

He doesn't really have a solid link to the Ravens anymore. Baltimore has a new owner. I think they're more likely to look at Garrett or Marty. McDaniels is pretty green and young for a HC job in the NFL.

I honestly don't understand how this guy keeps getting mentioned for jobs. Any fanbase would be in open revolt with his current record.

The only people talking about him going there are Media types. Nobody in the Ravens organization is talking about him I assure you! haha! Their fans would meltdown completely, which I would love of course...

If for some reason they took a college coach it sure as heck won't be another conservative one like KF.

Yeah, as long as Ferentz has hombres like Mark May pimping his name for every job opening REGARDLESS of his qualifications or actual ability--simply by the power of the media lovefest for him--you will hear his name come up. And Hawk fans will be quick to gobble it up, too, both because they want to stroke their egos and reinforce the idea that Kirk is gold and that Iowa is the center of the universe, and because they want to get rid of him. Hypocrisy...thy name is Hawk fan.

His agent floats his name out there to the various media outlets that are starved for a "scoop" and they run with it...pretty simple.

I agree with this, it is the only logical explanation. He is just praying for a good season or two at EIU so he can finally make his exit to the NFL.

were any of you surprised Billick was let go? I think he was like 80-64 with a Super Bowl win and was in the playoffs half the time. I didn't hear if there was more to it or not, but his numbers were pretty good.

I hear ya. But with an old defense, old rickety QB, no good wrs, and only offensive weapon was McGahee, i'd say 5 wins wasn't too bad.

From how I heard it on the radio the other day, when you're an offensive guru who's been unable to build an offense, or at least bring in a serviceable QB for that matter, during your entire tenure, and year in and year out that's been your downfall, are you really doing your job? Keep in mind that the Super Bowl win for them was something like 8 years ago now. About the same amount of time as our last "respectable" bowl game (if you can call the Insight.com bowl that).

EDIT - I don't know which Billick was - offensive or defensive guru. But you have to admit - he's had one hell of a defense in Baltimore over the last decade.

And I don't...not for a 9 win team anyway.

I think we was supposed to be an offensive guru. I believe he was Minnesota's off coord in 1998 when they scored all those pts then lost to Atl in nfc title game. their D was what carried them all those years. Can't believe they won the super bowl with Trent Dilfer.

Those are some sweet memories for me, being the resident Falcons fan

You think that still upsets Tampa to no end (well, up until 2003 anyway)? A QB they gave up on and got rid of because he was unable to bring home the NFC title, then goes to Baltimore and "leads" them to not just the AFC title, but a Lombardi Trophy?

Eh, The Bucs won 2 years later with Brad johnson who the Vikes and Skins had given up on(or probably left due to free agency). they eventually got thiers. Also the Bucs year ina nd year out fielded a primarily bad offense anyways. Goes to show just how dominant the defense needed to be.

Back to Billick, everything Ive read points to him losing the team/players. When that happens its over with.

To Bilicks credit, the fact that they actaully made/won the superbowl that year was a miracle. im sure some numbers crunching could place that offense as one of the most feeble in the last 10 years. Somewhat odd considering they had some serious star power at RB/TE/left tackle.
