Press-Citizen sues UI in assault case

The Press Citizen newspaper in Iowa City is sueing U of I for not providing records and information they feel they should receive by the open records act regarding the alleged rape by football players.

It will be intersting to see how much new information comes out because of this. The UI seems to be holding their cards pretty close to their chest. It's surpising to me that the PC is potentially biting off the hand that feeds them. Without the University this paper is nothing.

I hope for the alleged victim's sake there hasn't been any wrong doing.

From what it appears, for a University known for being a law school they sure don't handle these investigations very well.

WOW, good for the PC. I'm sure the UI attorneys are hoping their bunker mentality will hold out, as they and all attorneys know, it's all about what's on paper.

Not that I don't agree with you that the PC deserves to get the info. But the U of I are a bunch of lawyers, they aren't going to just hand out information that is harmful to them without fight in a way they know well.

That may be true DMB, but the university is lawfully required to release the information, they just don't have to release the student's names.

I'm betting there was a payoff in this case. No knowledge, just supposition.
