I happen to think the best basketball coach in the state lost a narrow 3 point game to the #6 team in the nation tonight...

I think Mac given worse that what Morgan started with. Morgan had a couple key guys Vroman and Sullivan etc. They made it to the final 4 of the NIT. Mac started with half a team.

Yup, he's long been the best coach in the state too.

Lick took Butler to the sweet 16 twice. We're talking about Bulter here. Mac has never won an NCAA tourney game in his coaching career. I'd say if you want to compare resumes it's easy to tell who the better coach has been to this point. That being said, taking UNI to the NCAA tourney 3 times is pretty historic and will never come close to happening again in many of our life times.
I do agree with the main idea behind the start of this thread and I have no idea why he settled for the Iowa job and didn't hold out for something better. There's nothing wrong with coaching at Iowa or in the Big 10 but their program is a diaster at this point. It's pretty sad when people are hyping Tony Friggin Freeman as the best player in the preseason. He's about as good as Lee Love, Paris Corner, etc.

And before you say I'm nuts for flying off the rocker and misinterpreting your post, why don't you go back and read it and explain to me further why you have such ***** envy for our main rival after only a half of year with some big blowouts, including a loss to us. If I remember correctly McDermott pulled out some pretty big wins and close losses in his first year. I have faith in GMac, but I also believe that Lick is the better coach of the two. Kind of like how I have faith in KF, but believe Chizik will be the better coach. I don't sleep at night dreaming of Licklighter being an ISU coach, but I do think he is a better one than GMac.

I think Lick is a great coach. However I worry abou him being able to overcome what is going to be some big odds at Iowa. I mean it is going to be beatdown time all year in the Big 10. There are 9 road games... I don't see Iowa getting more than one at Michigan or NW. And those are going to be tough for that team too. I honestly would set the over under for Big 10 wins at 4 for them. I mean that's rough. Hopefully Gatens is everything he's been built up to be for them.

I don't know who is the better coach because I haven't played on both teams like it sounds some of you have. With that being said, I'd take Mac as ISU coach every time over Lick.

Neither coach's resume matters at this point. The better coach will be determined by who can rebuild a program the best and then we can pull out the coaching resumes.

FYI. Morgan inherited 3 starters from LE's last year Sullivan, Homan and Vroman. A key reserve in Jefferson and 2 stud freshman guards in Stinson and Blalock. Gmac inherited one starter in Clark and a part time starter who started the season suspended in Jiri. Not even a question who had the the better situation.
Lickliter inherited 1 full-time starter in Freeman and 4 guys who started several games each in Johnson, Looby, Tate and Gorney. Maybe Lickliter isn't doing as well as some people think? Hmmmm.
