Lickliter - Did he realize?

I caught part of the Ohio State/Iowa game and it looked like 1) Iowa really sucks and 2) Lickliter wanted to be anywhere but on the Iowa bench. Did he know how bad it was coming in? He must have known it was weak but this bad?

Also, he looks like he is reading his last will and testament on those Big 10 Network spots where he says some crap about the network and finishes with "Go Hawks."

Re: Lickliter - Did he realize?

To be fair, they have dealt with some key injuries.

You're right though, they are bad, and I don't think Lickliter knew it was going to be this bad.

That commercial you mention is funny to watch. As much as he looks like he doesn't want to be on the bench during games, he looks a LOT more like he hated doing that spot for the Big 10 Network.

Lickliter proved himself at Butler, he will be good in a few years. Just like our program, its going to take time.

Do you think he looks at Butler's record and team and thinks: Why did I leave?

And yes those BTN ads are bad.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

Lick is Barry Collier good - who did Butler and who did Nebraska and went back as AD to Butler.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

I think most Iowa fans saw this coming, and it'll probably happen again. Lick is a proven coach, it'll take time. This loss doesn't sting as much as the 40 point losses Iowa saw at MSU under Alford.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

I'm starting to think that it's just his personality to be that way. It is what it is I guess.

Re: Lickliter - Did he realize?

I know we are pretty early in the head coaching careers at their schools for all the coaches for major colleges here in Iowa, but I really think Lickliter is the best coach in the state. Let me tell you all I absolutely hate the Hawks, but for a majority of the games Iowa has played this year they have played hard and kept games close even though they are way outmanned.

I think with average D-1 talent Lickliter will have the Hawks winning games and it bothers me.

I am afraid you might be right. In the interim, I will enjoy the beat downs that the Hawks will endure.

I like Lickliter, but boy is he in for a rocky road. I'm weird because it's not that I want to see him or his players fail; but I just LOVE seeing their fans distraught.

He reminds me kinda of LE and someone else I cant think of. He's not affraid to show emotion on the sideline, especially frustration and diasppointment. The way he always has his face buried in his hands, almost pulling his hair out.

Actually, I have heard from several connected folks that he did not know how bad Alford had run it into the ground. These folks have also said that Lick still would have come and taken the job. But that they were just flat shocked at the state of the program where someone had been there for eight years.

Can you imagine the Alford era without Horner, Brunner and Haluska?

Wait, I can...it would have lasted just 5 years.

Way to have faith in your own man.

You want to try giving McDermott more than a year and a half before you deem him incapable of getting the job done here? I'd say with average D-1 talent and experience McDermott will have the 'clones winning games and it bothers me that you don't see it that way. And before you say I'm nuts for flying off the rocker and misinterpreting your post, why don't you go back and read it and explain to me further why you have such ***** envy for our main rival after only a half of year with some big blowouts, including a loss to us. If I remember correctly McDermott pulled out some pretty big wins and close losses in his first year.
