BTN

How much cash is the Big 1011 spending on thier stupid ads. I listened to 100.3 all day and they were about the only ad on that station, and it is the ISU flagship. I hear that stupid ad all the time, on every station and it just doesn't seem to be working for them.

To bad no Iowa games on cable or reg TV, more people to watch ISU play, yet another way ISU it slowly taking over the state.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

Re: BTN

I'm curious to see how long it lasts. Isn't Buffalo Wild Wings their only sponsor? Without having the BTN on major cable networks they won't get the advertising so I can't imagine they are making any money right now. Haven't heard any other conferences starting their own network soon because of BTN which makes me believe that it is going to eventually fail if they can't strike deals with cable companies and land some advertising.

Re: BTN

What scares me about the BTN is that is where the ISU vs Iowa game will be next football and basketball season. (if the network is still going)

I'm not sure if you're meaning Big 10/11 or if you are a comp sci major

Well I know originally that the BTN claimed each team in the league would get $6 million per year. And a article recently said that this year each team will receive $3 million each this year. So I guess that would put advertising around $3 million per team

Not that scary, just find a friend with DTV. Then the game will be in HD. It is just as scary as when the games are on mediacom 22.

Re: BTN

They have to be losing major money. I wonder how long it will be before fox cuts their ties with it. And better question is when that happens where will they go to fill their TV contracts?

I imagine if Fox wanted to cut their ties it would be rather expensive. After this year there will be still 19 years left on the contract. So if fox is responsible for half the 6 million each team is to get each year they would probably owe around $57 million to each of the 11 teams.

Re: BTN

It is year 1 of a new network people. I know you are all nashing at the teeth to see this thing fail, but the big 10 network is GOOD for us! If it works there, and then the SEC network works, we could get a big12 network and get to see away ISU football games. We should all be cheering on the BTN!

I for one love it, I love college football, and the BTN does a great job giving me my drug of choice!

The other ads I've seen on the BTN:
Habitat for Humanity
Advance Auto Parts
Big Ten Classic Games
Big Ten Tonight

I'm sure there are others, but there are not very many.

I think it would be better for everyone if the SEC does their channel distribution right and succeeds. The issue is not the channel. I think everyone would agree its a great thing for college sports. The issue is the implementation of the BTN and their arrogence that they can do what they want and cable companies should fall in line.

We need one network to succeed and the rest will follow their blueprint. If the BTN is the first to work then others might follow their lead and we'll be in the same boat as Iowa not being able to see their games. And you know that if the Big12 were to start one and Mediacom resists in Iowa, the Big12 offices won't care as long as it is on in Texas and Oklahoma.

Re: BTN

Buffalo Wild Wings was founded in 1982 after James Disbrow and Scott Lowery moved from Buffalo, New York, to Kent, Ohio. Unable to find authentic Buffalo-style chicken wings in their new town, they decided to open up their own restaurant first, in Columbus, Ohio, and then one in Westerville, Ohio one year later. Disbrow passed away from brain cancer in 2002 in his hometown of Edina, Minnesota.

Looks like BW3 as it was once known has strong Big Ten ties.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.
