Also, I think most Valley teams play in front of about 5-10k fans normally. Last night's game drew 17k+, which can be intimidating for a lot of road teams, not just Valley teams.
All in all, I'd say that's a pretty big win for Drake.

I commend Creighton for drawing 17,000+ fans to the Qwest Center each game. That being said, as I watched the game on TV last night it seemed to have a quiet NBA-game atmosphere, until late. Just didn't seem like there was an intimidation factor there like in Hilton or other arenas that get loud. Also, the color guy said he thinks the Qwest Center is a much nicer facility than the Sprint Center. That would surprise me...thoughts.

Creighton doesn't lose there often because they had been better than all the other Valley teams for quite a while (and how many Valley teams are ever ranked going into Omaha?). Yes, the atmosphere there seems to be that of an NBA game. Probably just like when we play at Wells Fargo, you just don't get the same intimidation factor no matter how many fans are in attendance.

I think Creighton is able to draw large crowds mainly because it is located in a large city (Omaha), and there are a lot of people that go just because it is something to do for entertainment. However, I think many would be casual fans so the atmosphere wouldn't be like Hilton even though they have more people there.
| Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans… I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care… I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it… let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

There are a large number of people in Omaha who are Husker football fans and Jay basketball fans. The atmosphere isn't a problem of casual fans, many are very passionate. It's a question of where do you put 3,000 more fans than what Hilton holds. They don't fit at court side where they can be heard. You end up putting more in the nose bleed and far corner sections where they are not a factor in creating an intimidating atmosphere.

I'd rather ISU be the only team doing well in the state but alas, I guess I'm a Bitter Bob. Back to the bandwagoning lovefest. My dad lives in Delaware, moved there from Iowa three years ago, and has had numerous people talking to him about Drake the past week or so. People outside Iowa are hearing about Drake and the state in a positive light. It's a great thing for the State of Iowa Basketball...

Most do not care about driving to Lincoln to watch a worse team.
