Top Iowa Athletes...State Wide

This would be hard for me because some of the best could predate my time on this world, and my knowledge doesn't extend as far for multiple sports.

Nile Kinnick would be up there right along with Kurt Warner. Warner's story just compells me even more, and his accomplishments and the journey of them is a cinderella story in it's own.

Whats your vote?

A few rules to abide by:

1.Must be born in Iowa and spend majority of their childhood in Iowa
2.Does not have to be a one sport athelete, multi-sport would be allowed, but catagorized under the primary sport.
3.Highscool atheletes may be inlcuded.
4.State wide is accepted, not secluded to one area.
5.May be dead or living atheletes, thus may be current or past athletes as well.
6.Athletes may be picked for each particular sport, but one overall athlete will need to be chosen.

Cael's from Utah, isn't he?

Natasha Kaiser, Fred Hoiberg, Hinrich and Collison (cringe), Karen Jennings, Kip Janvrin, Bob Feller, Red Faber

Some quick ones off of the top of my head that weren't on the Gazette list. Plenty of others.

Aaron Kampman (even though he's a hawk) 2-time pro-bowler now.

Re: Top Iowa Athletes...State Wide

This is a good questions. My knowledge also does not go back as far as most, but off the top of my head-

Iowa
Nile Kinnick - played football and basketball at Iowa, AAU catcher for Bob Feller
Aaron Kampman - Multi-sport
Adam Haluska - track, basketball
Tim Dwight - track, football
Marv Cook
Chris Street
Nate Keading - point guard on State Champion team, good football and soccer player
Tavian Banks
Obviously I am missing many players over the years who may be considered

ISU
Fred H - great qb and basketball player
Gable
Avey ? - I can't remember for sure but was he the really good 400m hurdler?
Sage R
Obviously I am missing many players over the years who may be considered and I don't know as many ISU players

Other
Iowa has produced a number of girls basketball players and wrestlers that would be high on the list.
The gymnast from WDM.

Kurt Warner and Zach Johnson would probably be high on the list, but is a golfer really a top athlete. When I see lists about top athletes I always think about people who excel at multiple sports although in the case of Warner and Johnson we are talking about NFL MVP and Masters Champ, Ryder Cup.

Shawn Johnson is that gymnast. We might have to wait until the olympics to see how good she does.

Thompson for ISU BB??

Since you would have to include athletes before the last century... any list given out here would need a wide brush and lots of research to be worth a hoot. Otherwise it is just like the Gazette's.
