Yeah, I didn't think that $35 was a "bargain" for the concert. That's about what I'd expect to pay for any average performer. If the students get a discount then I can see more of them attending. I'd probably go for $10 if I was over there.

Pretty amusing development - they have to cancel the entire gridiron bash extravaganza for one reason or another. So those of you who wanted to check your wieners at the door don't have to be jealous of them landing Kelly.

I'm too lazy to read through 5 pages of posts to see if anyone mentioned this but I think back in 1998 there was some big country bash thing at JTS for a whole day. Only reason I remember is because one of the guys on my floor worked on the grounds crew for JTS and worked that day and said he got to eat lunch with the Dixie Chicks. Back then they were pretty popular so that was a big thing for him but we all know after their Bush and government bashing lately and people like Toby Keith lashing out at them for it they aren't eactly as popular today as they were back then.

It's a bummer that they had to cancel this. The NCAA becomes even more annoying...

The plan is to reschedule the event for the fall and try to do it again in the spring. There's no guarantee that the acts they lined up for the spring edition will all be able to make it to the fall shows. I would like to see ISU get this maybe in the spring of 09. It really did a good job building anticipation for the spring game and for the program in general (if you're a hawk fan i suppose).

This excuse sounds phoney to me. They had to cancel because they couldn't keep the athletes off the stage, come on. How about lousy ticket sales instead. Have you ever heard anything promoted as much as the gridiron bash was? Any event even remotely connected to EIU advertised the gridiron bash more than the Iowa Lottery.
The concept was bad from the beginning, football fans lining up to hear this years version of Helen Readys, "I am woman hear me roar."

What no more annoying radio ads about the event. I'm crushed.

The concept was bad from the beginning, football fans lining up to hear this years version of Helen Readys, "I am woman hear me roar." It wasn't just an EIU event. It is a major event with 16 concerts in 16 different stadiums on the same night. The Kinnick show was in 6th place out of 16 for attendance. Ticket sales were actually pretty good. The deal that went bad was all a deal between MSL Sports and the NCAA.

Strait Fest in '99 was the last stadium show that the athletic department and the Iowa State Center put on together. We had a grass field by then. There was a protective surface that was put over the field that could only remain on it for a certain period of time.
I still can't believe that they could not agree on doing another stadium show considering the money it brought into the University and Ames. George Strait Country Music Festival - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | | |
