Kelly Clarkson + Kinnick

Kelly Clarkson to Perform at Kinnick :: 'Gridiron Bash' to come to UI, 20 other campuses in April

I know most of you don't care, but I just thought it was kind of cool to have a big name singer coming to Kinnick.

Have there been any concerts in JTS?

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Nothing big. U2, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd.

But have fun....

Not sure about recently, but the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd played JTS in the '90s.

Well - we just missed out on William Hung's "She Bang" world tour.

Yes - I was devestated too.

I hear Kinnick is also bidding on the reunion tours for Spice Girls and New Kids on the Block.

I hope it's a good show for you guys! I read in a recent Blender that she puts on a good show (not my kind of music, but a good deal nonetheless) - I think something happened where she lost her record deal or something (???), and didn't think that she was touring at all.

Besides the Stones and Floyd... Anyone remember when Billy Joel & Elton John played JTS? I remember my parents tailgating for that.

Just messin with ya SH.

Not that a) I care or b) would ever pay to see Kelly Clarkson - but that's pretty neat for Kinnick to host shows. Seems to have stopped at ISU once we put in the real turf. I thought they had a surface to protect the field for concerts - but I don't recall anything being there since.....

I was at the U2 concert at JTS and it was a complete blast. If they can get some real acts in there, that's quite the coup for the university.

Ah, nothing big then

It's the first ever concert in Kinnick, so regardless of the name, I'm pretty stoked.

Normally I laugh at the handpuppets that are pop divas, but Clarkson actually bucked the trend of letting record labels tell artists what to do by saying she wanted to record and perform her own songs instead of something prepackaged for her.

She still doesn't meet my criteria as a bona fide artist, though. One of those has to write their own material, play at least one instrument, and never lip sync.

But still, enjoy the show there in IC.

Didn't Billy Joel have an outdoor concert scheduled at JTS in the 90's? Was it cancelled?

Billy Joel & Elton John played the "Piano Man" tour. Pretty sure they had it. I really wanted to go but I remember tix being $120 which is a small fortune today - and the show was '92 or '93.

And Joel also had two shows on the River of Dreams tour (??) - both in Hilton in '90/'91
