Interesting thread on the Iowa board...

Scout.com: Iowa Forums List

I think this thread is absolutely hilarious, because there was an absolute meltdown over there when Chizik stated he wanted to hire a chaplain for the football staff. There are loads of people actively campaigning for a Chaplain on their staff in the thread. I guess it makes more sense when a starter gets caught with Oxycontin.

How is it good news that there are so many things like this happening? I'm sorry, but this enjoyment of 18 year olds making stupid mistakes is starting to look a little obsessive.

These kids are doing dumb things. I don't know why it's happening so much lately, and I agree that something needs to be done. But it just seems ridiculous to me that there are people enjoying the fact that these kids are getting involved in serious problems such as drugs, robbery, and assault.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

It is never good news seeing a group of people make so many mistakes. It was funny after the first couple, but now it is just getting sad.

Good point southern.... I think some people are taking pleasure in this. I feel bad for these kids, they are blowing a great opportunity with these mistakes, but it is hard to feel bad for the program since this has become a pattern in the last 18 months... I think you would agree with that.

Sometime down the road these kids are gonna wish they hadn't made these mistakes...

thats true i am no fan of the UofI. But its starting to get sad for the coaches the University and the Fans. If this were to happen to ISU we would be waiting for the moon to fall.

Just means more of the top talent in the state (which is usually limited to 2-4 players each year) will likely take a harder look at ISU. I'm sure parents will start to see the issues happening at Iowa and also help steer kids toward ISU as well.

I agree. It's hard to feel bad for a university or anything like that. It's difficult as a fan, because there haven't been this many issues at Iowa in such a short amount of time in the history of the program. I'm not sure what is causing the last two years to be so high in arrests, but something needs to be done.

But these aren't bad kids for the most part. They are getting into a new environment, and are getting involved with rougher crowds. There's nothing funny about seeing guys waste their lives by committing these crimes.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Everyone enjoys a good laugh and some stupid behavior like public intox and pissing on a building sometimes can't help but make you laugh. Hell, even ISU fans laughed about 6'10" Jared Homan getting drunk and trying to hide from police by crawling under a compact car.

When it comes to drugs, robbery, and assault, nobody is laughing. Instead people are shocked by two things:

(1) It is happening at a higher frequency at Iowa than anywhere else by a huge margin,

and

(2) Criminal behavior in the Iowa football program has been out of control for almost a year and nobody in charge has done anything about it. Or maybe there is nobody in charge?

Ya know southern I too would be spending copious amounts of time on a rivals board if we where having so many "issues". The obsession seems to be with deviant behavior infested in the UI football team. I think this reaction is the reasonable response of a fan base that was verbally raped by UI's fan base over the berryman et al issues not long ago.

Is it funny? No? Is it fair? Not sure. Is it expected? Yup, deal with it.

But when one readily will cast a stone be prepared...and I expect when it happens at ISU(and it will to some degree) UI fans wil be yucking it up.

I respect your position on this and agree that it's too bad these kids are getting into the trouble they are, but it's not like they're murdering people. Most of them aren't "wasting their lives." They're just acting like stupid kids. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be getting the guidance they need from their authority figures.

Maybe they should have their players take wireless eye ball cameras with them so they can stop them before they do something stupid.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

I just don't think it's very funny. Public intox, or things that don't really ruin a guy's life are semi-humorous to an extent. But finding great pleasure when an 18 year old faces possible jail time - just seems silly to me.
