U of I athletes being targeted?

Scout.com: Iowa Forums List

That board is in meltdown... I almost feel for them.

EIU poster of the day. Just wreaks of intelligence.

"This response has nothing to do with how KF should handel this issue. But I have know doubt what so ever that police are capable of targeting a certain group for their own reasons"

Re: U of I athletes being targeted?

Once upon a time I heard a story from a cop, from either IC or Coralville, talking about how a young new cop was super excited when he busted an UI athlete for drunk driving, but he skipped some rules to bring him in quickly and brag. As it turned out he wasn't over the legal limit and got let off, not sure what happened to the cop for it.

I think it relates to the cops and giving a lot of tickets over there and the UI athletes not being too smart.

There may be something to it. It seems the number is just a little too high, especially with the minor violations. I wouldn't be suprised if they are charging these guys because of who they are when they would let an average student go with a warning...

If they wouldn't have football players getting into trouble all the time it probably wouldn't be as big of deal. But when your supposed to have "One of the best programs in the Big 10" your gonna get attention.

Maybe they should stop wearing the jersey and full pads everywhere. Seriously, I doubt a normal cop takes the time to know everyface on the jailbirds team. If they see a kid pissing in the street, stealing dvds, driving all over the road or with weed on a desk they do their job regardless....I hope anyway.

There's an easy way to not get in trouble with the police...Don't do something illegal and your troubles go away.

Considering the police are going out of their way to bust football player is idiotic.....

Re: U of I athletes being targeted?

First off as an athlete you should know you'll always stand out in a crowd. Second, you are not above the law. This last arrest was not your run of the mill petty offense, it was drugs. I don't care how harmless some people say pot is, it's still illegal and I'd say it's bigger offense than underage possession of alcohol because alcohol is a lot easier to obtain than reefer is.

Bottom line is just don't do something stupid. Yeah it if were you and me no one would care about it but when you have a scholarship it makes the news. That scholarship is a privledge not a right.

I live my life by a simple, easy to follow rule:

"Go ahead and do some stupid, JUST DON'T GET CAUGHT"

I don't think the EIU Football players are exhibiting poor choices and behavior is something new, it is just that they have become so (brazen? cocky? conceited? stupid?) that they are getting caught now.
