I think we are having a fundamental disagreement on what the word "con-game" means. I'm using the classical definition of "confidence" game, where someone offers you something for nothing, i.e. "You just can't lose!" proposition. When that stereotypical "blue haired lady" gets her life savings drained in the Nigerian Scam, it is her greed that traps her, as much as the Scam itself.
Myself, I either donate money or goods, or I don't "help someone out". Most times, people get in trouble for the reason, and addressing the symptoms is asking for it.
