Re: UNI Football Players Arrested For Rioting

I always thought ISU was the "riot" school....

[ducking and running]

Seriously, though, there are advantages and drawbacks to all three major modes of living. I've never been a member of a fraternity, but I don't have any problems with them. It seems to work for their membership. Now I HAVE had problems living in a dorm, but that's because I value my individual freedoms more than they would like me to have. But dorms work for those who like them, and more power to them!

Peace, my brothers...peace. No need to cause a "riot" over modes of college living....

Heh... Nothing unifies a campus like a good old fashioned riot. Why, back in my day, they tipped a VW Bug into the entryway of Kinkos and the riot blocked Lincolnway. At least until Ames PD started lobbing tear gas canisters into the crowd. It was quite the sight as observed from the front lawn of Friley.

On a more serious note, I think Farley has taken the correct action here. The players are suspended for now, with more action possible later. He's making sure that they're being punished immediately, but not rushing to judgement until all the facts are out.

Now, you may say, "But what about KF and his crew?" I don't think the situations are the same. First off, these guys were in the middle of a riot. So lots of blame gets applied to everyone involved. Perhaps they should have walked away, but that can be hard to do when you're in a building with x-number of exits and perhaps your friends are involved and blah blah blah. Events like this act like a force of nature and people get drawn in. Mob mentality can be hard to extract yourself from.

If the players were heavily involved, kick 'em off. Otherwise, suspension and having to work back into good graces should be sufficient.

He grabbed me and said, "dude, don't ever say frat in this house again. You wouldn't call your country a c*nt would you?"

That right there pretty much told me everything I needed to know about frats. Didn't join and haven't looked back since.
Must have been a serious house like Farmhouse or AGR that you were at, I was in a frat and we joked about that analogy. Now I have PO'd the fratters in those houses, oops! This arguement will be long and come to no conclusion, I hated the dorms and moved out after 1 semester, loved the frat(ernity) house and liked my apartment. To each their own.

I like how the school that keeps players like Mike Taylor on until he commits his third crime is making fun of Iowa let alone UNI and Drake.

Heh. I wondered when the UNI contingent would show up.

FYI, we're *fans* and we can make fun of whomever we like. If I were Jason Berryman and I were making comments, well that's a whole other story.

Is this the Frat thread or the UNI riot thread?

The idea of Frats (Brotherhood) sound good to me but I never left them for the dorms...

As for riots... ah VEISHEA 2004...

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!
