There is some truth buried in your sarcasm. Iowa does have a great alumni base throughout the country and I would wager many more of their grads leave the state after school than our's do. I have been in numerous cities and the I-club gatherings in say Chicago, Pittsburg, and Denver rival the crowds that the Cyclone club gets in our own state. Some of you probably don't want to hear this but it is very true I can assure you.

I thought Iowa had the highest ratio of out of state kids for the big 3 universities. The rumor is that so many kids from Illinois go to Iowa because they cannot get into Illinois or Northwestern.

Yes, this is true. Which helps explain why they don't tend to stick around and instead spread out all over the country. Iowa City might as well be called "little chicago." They were even planning a train (called the hawkeye) that would connect Iowa City and Chicago...I don't know where the plans currently stand on this.
