It's not like we're all that far removed from loads of trouble under McCarney either. We're going to get our comeuppins eventually.

I know Iowa City has a reputation as being this "black hole" of all morality, but as somebody who's spent the better part of a year experiencing both IC and Ames, they aren't that different. The party scene is a bit more active, but let's be honest, there's a good amount of that going on here too.
Iowa City is just like a giant Welch Avenue... with 19+ bars instead of 21+

I haven't seen a main contributor (or potential main contributor) leave in some time. But to compare the UofI's football turnover to the ISU MBB one... is laughable. Seriously.. you really want to go down the road as to who/what/why left ISU MBB versus UofI FB?
And extreme? they 'sell' IC on it's culture, nightlife, etc to recruits ... who doesn't. The problem? IC nightlife is out of control along with its culture .... (uh-oh, political talk sorry) and the athletes fit right in.

Iowa City is just like a giant Welch Avenue... with 19+ bars instead of 21+ I know that Pugh is transferring without having been arrested, but the majority of the attrition is not just because they want to go to a different program...they were forced to leave due to legal issues.
I'm not saying that this can't or doesn't happen at ISU, because it does, but the MBB program, with the exception of Mike Taylor, is experiencing attrition for far different reasons than the Iowa FB program. You tried to compare the two, and I think it's apples and oranges.

I'm strictly talking player turnover. A comment was made about how Iowa has so many players leaving, which is true (to a point). However, the football team has had probably just as many players transfer as the ISU basketball team has. This isn't about why these players left, because we all know the reason 90% of the football players are now moving on.
And the IC night life is out of control? Have you spent time in Iowa City for a long period of time? It's a college town. There is more drinking than the average college town, but it's hardly one of the worst in the nation. Just thinking Big Ten schools (because I know more about those cities than I know of Big 12 cities), IC ranks behind Minneapolis, Maddison, East Lansing, and Bloomington in terms of night life/part scene.
The culture is not "out of control" in Iowa City. There are bad apples that are out of control, and they are players (hopefully) no longer with the football team.

Most of ISU's transfers are leaving on their own terms, and most of the Iowa FB players are leaving on terms out of their hands. (Those terms are usually 1-3 years. )

Frankly I really don't think IC has that bigger of a problem than Ames. People are blowing this way out of proportion. It wasn't long ago that we were running off Hooks and Nash, Tyese Thompson, etc etc. I like the way Chizik has handled his arrest problems so far but we have no idea what could be happening behind the scenes or whatever.

See, I have lived in both (well N. Liberty and Southern CR) and spent lots of times in meat markets at both cities.
If I was all about 'getting it on' and finding some 'meat', I would choose IC over Ames everyday of the rest of my life. The possibilities were endless in IC and the number of fights/scrapes I saw in IC out numbered Ames almost 10 fold.
College is college, but in IC it is the way of life. And that is the way has been for a long time... what changed, is the polices attitude about looking the other way when Fry, Gable, Stringer and Tom/George/Lute were in town. When UofI sports hit their peak with the above coaches, the good times in IC night life were insane... but you better have watched your back.
This isn't a flame on IC, as I enjoyed it many times before meeting my wife in CR. But, rather a first hand account and then opinion on the trouble the UofI now finds itself.
-keep.
