Another Hawk off the football team?

Reports are circulating on Iowa message boards that Sophomore running back Jevon Pugh may be the latest Hawk football player off the team for past misconduct issues. In addition, reports are circulating that a report on the alleged sexual assault involving Iowa football players will be coming out this Spring or early Summer.

Re: Another Hawk off the football team?

I thought it was already known he was involved in that assault issue and he was off the team.

Re: Another Hawk off the football team?

Apparently not widely known as the Hawk message boards are just taking about it today as if it's a rumor and just now news. He may have been suspended...and is now gone.

Re: Another Hawk off the football team?

Cue SouthernHawk: There are probably several dozen UI students named "Jevon Pugh". I'm sure he will "guarantee" that this is not Jevon Pugh the football player.

Trying to keep track of all the arrests/suspensions/rumors, etc. is about like trying to memorize pi to the 400th digit.

At the very least, I'm sure he'll guarantee that this has nothing to do with the Regents.

(for the record, I don't think it does, just figured he might try the pre-emptive strike )

He has also disputed everything I have posted about Iowa reacting to pressure from the Iowa Board of Regents. I contend that without that pressure, most of the players who have left would still be with the team. And I notice the lid is shut tight on the assault investigation. Johnson County authorities are no longer po po ing the issue. The report from the Regent investigators and others will be interesting.

Pugh is listed as the number two running back on the Spring depth chart.

Man, their turnover is almost as bad as our BB team.

Re: Another Hawk off the football team?

Last I heard, Pugh was only questioned regarding the assault issue from the fall and he was incorrectly fingered by the Register. I still honestly believe that they should apologize for someone fingering him as a rapist.

I thought that whole thing was resolved a long time ago. Pugh is on the team, Ferentz has commented on it unless something changed in the last few weeks.

Re: Another Hawk off the football team?

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine who is a huge hawk fan. He wanted to agrue that ISU has had as many convicted fellons as Iowa has had over the past 5 years. I'm made a compromise in that not all the cases within Iowa City have gone as public and been "convicted" the the Douglas credit card issue, but that doesn't mean that 12 or so players haven't had to be dealt with versus maybe the 3 or so ISU players in Football and Basketball combined.

I like the guy, a good friend, but this was just proof of how self absorbed these Hawk fans get. And then to call out ISU on the same thing is rediculous.

I think your friend is correct. As far as I can recall both schools have one convicted felon in the past five years -- Pierre Pierce for Iowa and Jason Berryman for ISU. Iowa has had a lot more athletes charged with felonies, but I believe all of them except Pierce were able to make deals where they pled guilty in exchange for having the charges reduced from felonies to misdemeanors. Of course James Cleveland still has felony drug charges pending so that tally might change.

Re: Another Hawk off the football team?

I believe this is old news. It may be "official" now, but he wasn't practicing with the spring squad, and it's been widely accepted that Guillory/Greene would be the running backs this coming season.

And also, Bryce makes a valid point. Pugh was "supposedly" never even questioned about this rape case, and the rumors were started by the Register being the good 'ole Register and questioning students who used hearsay to tell their story.

But it's cool, might as well ruin his life. He's just a football player.

Actually, I just did a little searching, and found nothing in KF's presser that says he's off the team. Ferentz does mention that he won't be with the team for spring ball, but as of now, unless it's premium information (which I doubt), Pugh will be making a return this fall.

It sounds like grades more than anything.

Is this really true??? I'll tell you what, I'm a hawk hater with the best of them, but if this story is true and the DMRag labeled somebody who is innocent as a rapist, that is wrong in every sense of the word. If he in fact had nothing to do with the assault, I hope he finds a good lawyer. Incorrectly being labeled a sex offender will mess with the rest of his life...
