I just think its funny how many eiu fans thought 2008 and 2009 were to be national title run years with no Ohio State & Michigan on the schedule. Oh my how things of fallen.

its almost like a promising youth that pick up a heroin habbit...what could have been.

That put a smile on my face, i can still remember my Iowa friends spouting off about the schedule and after each team saying "We should win that one" ....

Thats the problem with Iowa fans, they came to expect too much from KF and his staff has not delivered.....Look at the number of quality players lost due to various reasons and any team would be in disarray....

I do not foresee another Hawkeye run like they had for another 10-20 years just as it was the last time they had one....But, not to be rippin on them, because us cyclone fans would love to have a run like that and then a few down years......Just not the 75 arrests between those 10-2 teams and the now 6-6 teams.....

Does that almost put the IOWA ST game as extremely important on their schedule....But all we ever hear is that its our super bowl.....well guess what iowa, had your sorry arrest riddled team gotten up and beat ISU last year, you would have been bowling instead of picking up the Iowa City police blotter to get team news.....

One point i had to disagree with his article - If i were a Hawkeye fan, and we didnt have anyone that could beat out Shada, you think this year will be an improvement....sorry but that guy flat out stunk and if the guy backing him up is now the starter...watch out for some big catches by Hamilton and Franklin.....
Oh, Adam Shada. My buddy and I were sitting in an IC bar during the Iowa-ISU game in '06. Some Hawk fans behind us growled every time they saw Shada on the screen, saying something to the effect of "F****** Shada, he f****** sucks." At one point I believe it was Blythe who had a big reception over Shada, and these guys slam down their beers and scream "God****it, Shada!"

Now, every time I see Shada on the screen, I make a point of yelling "God****it, Shada!" -- even if I'm all by myself.

Based on Mr. Harty's article it sounds like the 2008 football season at Iowa is suspect at best. The interesting thing in his story is toward the end of the article.

He makes it sound like the shoe is now on the other foot. Is this years Iowa State vs. Iowa game now the Hawkeye's Superbowl???

Shada was a senior, and had more experience than the players behind him. Just because Shada started ahead of these guys doesn't mean he was better.

In 2001, Kyle McCann started in front of Brad Banks....

So you are admitting that KF is a coach who would play a kid most of the year because of how old he is or experience and not based on talent? Thank god we have Chizik!

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

Re: Interesting read on Iowa football outlook...

I really think that this years ISU/EIU game is very important to EIU - maybe more important to them then us....not sure how our season will unfold, but, if we get to 6 wins and our improvement is there, we will still be super excited about our future. If EIU gets 6 wins for the third straight year, and then look forward to Ohio St and Michigan back on the rotation for a few years which will guarantee them 2 losses a year, in my opinion, this is the year i would want to play Michigan....They won't yet have the players for Rich Rods' offense and with both starting WR and QB, and RB and 3 members of the starting line as well as a 4th that quit the team this week....this is the year to play michigan.....because in a few years you definitely wont want to be playing them....

So let see whos this game more important for:
EIU - Maine(W), Florida International (W), ISU (W-L), @Pitts (L), Northwestern (W-L), @Mich St (L), @Indiana (W), Wisc (L), @Illinois (L), Penn St (L), Purdue (W) and @ Minnesota (W) that would leave EIU with a 5 wins, 5 losses and 2 tossups...ISU being one of them - how important is this game to them???

ISU - S. Dakota (W), Kent (W), EIU (W-L), @UNLV (W), Kansas (L), @Baylor (W), Nebraska (L), Texas A&M (L), @Ok. St (W-L), @Colorado (L), Missouri (L), @ K.State (W-L) that leaves us with 5 wins, 5 Losses and 2 tossups.....we win either of the toss up games and our season is a success - EIU has to win both toss up games to get to a bowl game....

IMO - this is a make it or break it season for KF and his staff.....Way too much money and pride to see the EIU ship start to sink.....my guess, EIU finishes 5-7 or 6-6 and KF will be let go - will be fun to watch it unfold this fall, and if a bad season falls upon Iowa City and especially if ISU goes in and handles them (Which i have a feeling we will), there will be a lot less yellow and black out in the open come fall, you will see nascar jackets, pro football jackets, hockey jackets, but the Hawk jackets will be in the dry cleaners......... Its funny how 6-6 instead of 10-2 and seems like theres just not as much black and yellow worn around.......

Call me crazy but if the backup was better I would like to think he would be on the field...just sayin

Well, when a Senior has 3 years of experience over a talented freshman, I'd take the Senior. Also, Fletcher (Shada's replacement) showed a lot of promise last year, but he also had some Freshman mistakes.

Freshman mistakes are more correctable though then the senior ones that have been ingrained for 4 years.

Except unfortunanetly Fletcher is not a freshman. He is going to be a senior.

"It'll be hard for this Iowa team to win at Pittsburgh in the fourth game, which makes defeating Iowa State the week before more important than usual."

Allow me to be the first to say this: Chizik gets it done and ISU wins big in Kinnick this fall. The Iowa program is in the worst shape it has been in since the late 1970s. Most pre-season assessments agree the cupboard is bare in Iowa City and the Hackneyes will be fighting with Minnesota for the cellar of the Big Ten.

Re: Interesting read on Iowa football outlook...

If there are any Cyclone fans who have predicted a 10 win season on this site, I haven't seen it and frankly, if they were, I would classify the stuff they are smoking the same trailercourt hemp laced with used motor oil that the hawk fans have come accustomed too.

And SoHa, you are dillusional if you think that there are just as many Cyclone fans that put absolutely total unrealistic standards on our team as the hawks have/will. This year I would say that there is not real talent advantage at all between ISU and EIU. THe only person I have heard that put ISU's record up that high is the school board member who used to own a Cyclone website who has the credibility of a felon and plenty of Cyclone fans everywhere have had fun with his predictions, although most weren't surprised because he is actually a hawk fan.

But, and mark my words, it won't be long and Jon Miller and his hawk callers will start talking about how easy their season appears(just like last year) and begin predicting not only which BCS bowl they will go to but will also argue about if the hawks totally destroy us at Quinnik in September or if they let little brother feel like he's in the game??????

Question for the day: Can I still make season tickets work for FB and MBB if I move to Canada?

So you're saying Shada started because he was a Senior, not because he was better? Then why don't all the seniors for Iowa start? Glad we don't have KF as a coach. I want the best guys to play.
(Glad we don't have to play the Iowa backup players. They could probably win the national championship.)
