Re: Interesting read on Iowa football outlook...

"I bet I can find at least 3 threads from this board where people were saying a 10 win season is possible, expecting road wins at Iowa and KSU, and saying a Big 12 Title game trip within the next 3 years."

I'll take that bet.

I think you will lose because of the bolded part. What IS important is that SH changed the scope from next years wins to what we see in 3 from our team...

Re: Interesting read on Iowa football outlook...

I expect ISU to be somewhere around 5-7 next season. 4-8 wouldn't surprise me and I'd be elated with 6-6. Hawk fan on the other hand assume that they'll be playing NYD every year. Even though their team went 6-6 last season and there are very few reasons to think that they'll be much better. Then again, they've played on NYD with a 7-5 record before, so who's to say they can't do it again (even if it's a joke to be rewarded with that bowl with that record).

Unless KF starts adjusting his schemes, I not only expect ISU to beat iowa regularly, I expect them to pile up losses in the Big 11. Lining it up and trying to overpower the opponent is not the only way to win now. It will keep them in games against Wisconsin and PSU, but it will also allow them to lose to teams like Minnesota and Indiana.

Do or do not, there is no try .....Yoda

I was mostly pointing out the fact that I've read at least one thread where there were people predicting 10 wins, and another predicting a Big 12 North Championship within the next 3 years.

Like I said, it doesn't really matter. It would actually be kind of disappointing if fans didn't have high expectations. I don't think it's idiotic to believe (and hope) that your team can be special. I don't know of any fan base out there with "realistic" expectations.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

cool...

But IMO, the fact remains that view is the minority (by a long shot) for our fans and quite the opposite for yours.

Let us not forget the dynamics of both fanbases though.

ISU fans - a smaller bunch, but those that are fans, have seen many hard times, and love the team.

Iowa fans - a larger group, who have some very hard core fans, but also some very ignorant bandwagoners who are probably USC fans now.

Both Iowa and ISU have very solid core groups of fans - it's the outer edges of each - and Iowa has more of those outer edge fans - that whine and complain when their lofty expectations fall short.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Re: Interesting read on Iowa football outlook...

Iowa State needs to have a decent building year this coming season, AND if we are going to break through, the 2009 season is when it needs to happen. The schedule includes:
North Dakota State
Iowa
Kent State
Army
K State
Baylor
Neb
A and M
O State
CU
Mizzou
After that, back to the south schedule. 2009 is not a cupcake schedule, but it's the opening to get 7-8 wins and a decent bowl. With the age of our players, we should start gelling this season hopefully. A Big 12 North title...no easy task...

I don't think Iowa fans are any more "homeristic" than ISU fans.
Please point them out, then I'll point out the cyclone fans that responded and told them to get off their high horse. Most fans on this website are predicting 5-6 wins. I believe there has been a couple polls about it also.

And after a quick search, they are burried some where in the archives. I'm not sifting through 200,000 posts to make a point.

And of course there were ISU fans pointing out how ridiculous those expectations are. Just like if you visit Iowa boards, there are fans doing the same thing.

Re: Interesting read on Iowa football outlook...

finding an Iowa fan in the past who contradicts another Hawk claiming 10 or 11 wins will probably be as hard to find in those archived SoHa

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

And this may be, but there are also different circumstances. This isn't meant to be a flame, but ISU fans haven't had as much reason to predict a 10 or 11 win season as Iowa fans have.

Just like in basketball, Iowa fans haven't had nearly as much reason to expect big things like ISU fans have.

Here's the thread with the early football predictions. http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...diction-2.html (Not the first or the last 2008 iowa state football prediction)

There were a few predictions of Big 12 North champs in 2-3 years...there were also some sarcastic predictions of a 12-0 regular season this year.
