Will Keno Davis take a coaching offer?

After seeing that Keno won COY and seeing coaches like the one from Western Kentucky take offers from bigger schools if he is offered a job to coach at a bigger school with a bigger budget would he take it?

I don't see it this year. I could see him getting looks, especially from somewhere like Marquette. I can definately see him taking a big job after next year though, especially with a top 4 finish in conference.

IF he gets offered from Marquette why not take it. That is a good basketball school in a BCS conference! They have more $$ better factilies, easier recruiting. I would jump at the chance!

I can't see Keno being that hot commodity after just this year. If he makes Drake consistantly good, and he does not have to win the MVC every year, then yes he will get some offers, and yes I could see him moving on. He should not be tied into having to stay at Drake just cause he got the job following his dad.

regardless of how good of year drake had it is still only his first year as head coach. if i am a bigger school im am looking for someone who has track record. that being said if someone like marquette offers him, he'd be crazy not to take it

Re: Will Keno Davis take a coaching offer?

IMO Keno Davises stock is the highest it can get in a non major conference. If he were smart, he would jump at the first decent major conference offer.

Drake loses three key players, and will be lucky to finish in the top 3 of the MVC.

Tom Davis coaching mentees have all been very successful. Gary Williams, Bruce Pearl and now Keno Davis.

The only thing I see him staying at Drake for is if his family is content in DSM.

I could see him being offered a job at a major division conference .... possibley Marquette? Oklahoma St? Oregon State?

For instance, remember last year when Chris Lowery from Southern Illinois was being sought after by all the major programs? Now, they had a down year, and he got a pretty good contract with a high buy out, and all of a sudden he isn't even mentioned for any high major jobs. I think Keno was wise when he put a walk option in his contract.

Re: Will Keno Davis take a coaching offer?

Another angle is that a private school can pay it's coach whatever they want/can afford and it isn't public knowledge. Maybe he will be happy sticking around a place like Drake where he is a God and the pressure isn't over the top like at a major school. (See Altman)

As someone else stated, he is as hot as he is going to be right now. I don't see Drake repeating this season next year with what they have lost.

If he was smart..he would jump on the first good offer that he gets. No disrespect to Drake or Keno..but I think this was a special year for Drake. I dont expect another one like it for a while.

They will be top 4 in the league next year which should be considered a success by anyone...

Re: Will Keno Davis take a coaching offer?

They easily could be top four for all I know. The problem is that the MVC will probably be a 1 or 2 bid league again next year if they are on the outside looking in they will be off the national radar for the most part. I don't really have an opinion on whether Keno should leave or not but the iron is hot now.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Drake has the kind of money that Creighton does. Creighton can afford to pay Altman a comparable amount that a BCS school would, but could Drake do that for Keno?

Drake could finish in the top 4 of the league next year...but do you think that will get him the looks from the bigger schools that this year did? I think not. Jump Keno while your hot.

Maybe Jeremy Piven will scratch him a check...
