I am well aware that Iowa has not been that good for several years. I don't remember saying that I thought they would be? I said I expected improvement, and when a team wins 6 games, 8 games isn't that unreasonable of an expectation.

And I agree that neither team is good as of now. But I can name two people off the top of my head (Cyclones91 and MontyBurns) that have said on multiple occasion they expect to beat Iowa. I could also find one of those predictions thread where roughly 40% of the predictions included a win over Iowa.
I expect to beat Iowa (at everything but arrests).

Reap the Wirbelsturm!!!

Burns is a weird dude, not sure if you should really count him as an Iowa State fan. He posts on here like he's an ISU fan, but then posts on HN.com like he's an Iowa fan. I suppose he could just be a fan of college sports in general, but again, not sure if you should be counting him as "one of us."

Back on topic, I'm not sure how ANY of us can really "expect" to win any of the games on the schedule. Do I think we can win at Iowa this year? Absolutely. Do I expect it? No. From being an ISU fan, I've learned to expect the unexpected, i.e. losing to Kent State and UNI last year. Even though it was a new coaching staff installing a system, not certain that we should have been losing games like that.

On the same token, I don't expect to lose any of the games on our upcoming schedule this season. Will we lose to Kansas? Probably. Do I expect it? No.

The key is tempering the enthuisiasm.

there are no gimmies in college football. Even if youre the best team in football. Anyone can beat anyone in this game. I won't go into any game thinking it will be an easy win or a for sure win.

Excellent post. Couldn't agree more. It's never acceptable to expect losses, and while that may seem unreasonable, it's just not how any fan base should operate.

Unless you're Buffalo.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.
