Yes, I get to keep seeing those great HyVee commercials promoting the matchup! Great news!

They ought to add another factor that recognizes Iowa spends about twice as much in the athletic dept as ISU and yet 2007 was the worst ***-kicking in the series.

The whole point of the series is to get people more interested in these sports...

I agree - but it's not really working. I don't see people watching an Iowa vs. ISU swim meet because the Cy-Hawk trophy depends on it.

Congrats for providing SH with the reason why the "insignificant" sports are included in the Cy-Hawk Series

Re: Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series to be renewed

seems to be a lot of opinions from both sides on a series that a lot of people say they don't care about...

no offense SH, but I think your (and some others') idea of laying more importance on a sport by the revenue it makes is plain stupid. that is not the idea behind sports, ESPECIALLY collegiate athletics. And Benny34 totally nailed it that this series was made to enact more interest in some of the other sports and they even said that when the Cy-Hawk series was first started 4 or 5 years ago. Whether it was really a good idea and/or worked I believe has yet to be seen...

Nice job trying to bring the club sports into this. Seeing how they are not paid for by the university - they're completely separate.

Now, if you need me to spell that out - just let me know.

I was just making a point.

Look, you have your opinion, I have mine. But in my opinion, if they want people to start caring about this thing, they need to cut some of the no-name sports. You disagree, I am well aware.

But don't take it as I'm saying these sports are insignificant. My point with the club teams is that they probably have about the same attendance numbers. Sanctioned by the university or not, there is about the same level as interest in the club teams as there is for Swimming or Cross Country.

The Cy-Hawk series will never be taken seriously as long as the sports that people care about are equal to the sports nobody cares about. I am well aware of the intent of the trophy - to garner interest for the little guys - but it's just not working.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

The less-attended sports are equal to the big sports? Um, I thought the point system was weighted...

Re: Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series to be renewed

Maybe they should have a minimum attendance of 10,000 to count, of course basketball events would only be counted every other year.

Why don't we have a contest with UNI? They perform better against us than Iowa does.

Basketball is usually considered a major sport. By your suggestion, basketball games at Iowa would not be part of the Cy-Hawk competition.

I don't believe I'm the only one who feels this way.
I think that is another reason why we should include them. It may drum up more interest in those sports.

Re: Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series to be renewed

I don't understand why Hawkeye fans would want to cut the low-attendance sports and just have Football - Basketball - Wrestling as the only sports that count. We'll win two out of three of those every year from here on out anyways. So if you cut out the other sports there goes your opportunity to win the Cy-Hawk Series and save face.
