Just because he fills out the paperwork doesn't mean he gets approved. There are plenty of non-steroid based creams out there that are an alternative.

After reading SH posts and the article I was confused.
So after re-reading the article I will have to agree with others and say he did cheat. Sure he could have tried to get an exemption, but maybe he knew he couldn't and just tried to compete while using the drug.

I have a real problem(as I would if it were to happpen in Ames) with this guy being a S&C coach where drug usage is a real problem-and still leading young athletes. Iowa's AD probably needs to make Zadick an example and fire him. Take the high road, and preserve the "integrity" of sport.
This is a real issue, and the guy is a "world class" athlete that got stripped of his medal due to the appearance of cheating-that isn't good, it is much more than a non-story. Again, nobody is excusing what he did. He was punished, and he deserved it.
But, it's a skin cream. Prescribed by his doctor. I'm not defending him, saying that he should get his medal back, or that what he did was right.
What I'm saying is, this is a non-issue. Maybe he didn't think he'd receive the waiver, I dunno. But under that assumption, he was stripped of his medals. Firing him over this would be absolutely stupid, and if people want to look at him as a cheater, go for it. But remember, you're image of a cheater is a guy who applied a legal skin cream without filling out the proper paperwork.

Im so glad we dont have cheaters in our wrestling program.
What an idiot. I guess if you are second rate and need to win cheating is one way to go. Congrats Hawkeyes and fans.

Apparently it is against the rules just for fun then.
Oh well, another Hawk rationalizing the integrity/morals/ethics of loser Hawkeyes and coaching staff.
I bet they quit selling those bumper stickers "Its great to be a hawkeye" for a reason.
Im just glad we finished as high as we did this year considering our coaching staff wasnt taking a steroid. FYI a skin cream is still a steroid. Apparently your ISU ed isnt kicking in yet:)

Well, since it was prescribed for him, good luck finding that out. I don't think his doctor is going to inform everybody that Zadick had a major skin rash and needed a powerful topical cream to help it.
I think I'm done in this thread. Some people need to know what skin rashes and medical needs a person has in order to prove they are/n't cheating. To me, as long as he didn't gain anything from it (which he didn't), and didn't receive it illegally (which he didn't), then I find it hard to call him a cheater.

You are not this dumb SH. Think about it. He used a banned substance.
How can you say he did not gain by it? How is that possible to know?
Why did they take his medal if he didnt cheat? If you can answer those three questions... I will agree he is not a cheater.
