UI scientists seek marijuana smokers for pot study

WHO TV - Des Moines: UI scientists seek marijuana smokers for pot study

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A group of University of Iowa scientists is looking for marijuana smokers to help gain insight into the drug's effects. And they plan to pay subjects as much as $600 to smoke their pot.

The study examines how marijuana affects brain function and cognition, with particular attention to the duration of use and the age of first use. The measure is brain imaging studies and achievement tests, such as for math and verbal skills
This would actually be a very interesting study. When I was in high school, I knew som people that smoked pot every day. They continued to do so into college and are extremely witty and know the exact ways to use math and verbal skills. In one case, they couldn't actually do calculus probems sober, when ther were altered, it was a reincantation of Einstein. Two of them are becoming Engineers (3.0 GPA) and another should be accepted into Iowa's creative writing graduate progam.

There is already a documentary on this topic. Comedian Doug Benson documents not smoking pot for 30 days and then smoking pot for thirty days in a row. He completes a number of tests while not smoking and while smoking to compare his performance.

The documentary is called "Super High Me" which is a take-off on that guy that ate all his meals at McDonalds for thirty days.

Channel 5 news just mentioned this.
My question is will they play "Stairway to Heaven" backwards when you participate?

They won't play Stairway to Heaven, but they are syncing The Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon. Then they discuss the idea that we could all be an atom in the fingernail of a giant.

University of Iowa to pay you $600 to smoke their pot....

That's right, the University of Iowa is ready to pay up to $600 to individuals willing to smoke their pot for a study on the effects of marijuana. They have a certificate from the US gevernment that allows them to use medical marijuana for the study and they will keep your name confidential. Because of this gevernment issued certificate, the researchers even have the right to refuse a court issued subpoena.

I know I've been beaten to the punch a few times already but oh well...

I'm sure they could just get their football team to volunteer. At least by having them do illegal things in a legal way they can ensure they have a somewhat full roster come fall

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Wow, I am way behind on the news. I thought I was the first to post on this, and instead my post was merged with a thread that is already on its second page.

Was this certificate mandated by the Board of Regents, or is this the wrong discussion for that?

Now if only they could pay "volunteers" $600 to steal credit cards or DVDs, and get one of those "special certificates" to keep the cops from arresting them...

Re: U of Iowa Scientists Pay $600 For Pot-Smoker study.

I know the U of I has done studies like this like 5 or 6 years ago where they paid people to smoke their weed, I think the study had something to do with having people smoke marijuana and then do a driving simulator to test how it effects their driving skills... I know this because my mother works for the accounts payable for the U of I... That and my neighbor from back home participated in the study...
