Mark May picked Iowa.....

as the Kansas-like surprise team of 2008. Unlike a decade ago where I would have thought- wow, Iowa might have a good team this year- believing they will win more than 6 or 7 games now is laughable.
It's just another comment by a national media type who tends to over rate the Hawkies this time of year. I have never understood the love affair.
Keep watching Mark.

Re: Mark May picked Iowa.....

I saw that on College Gameday about 2:30 this morning but was too lazy to post about it...I loved how he said their offense would be great because they return 8 of 11 and their quarterback Jake Christensen...that make me snicker.

Re: Mark May picked Iowa.....

Somebody needs to tell Mark May that Iowa will not be surprise if he picks them every damn year.

Kind of reminds me of a bumper sticker I've seen here in Des Moines with a Hawk logo and a tagline to the right reading "WE WILL RETURN".

Re: Mark May picked Iowa.....

Mark May's superiors need to have him go #1 in a cup. You'd have to be on drugs to make a statement like that. This is clearly a publicity stunt and nothing more.

Re: Mark May picked Iowa.....

So, Mark May continues his fetish of picking Iowa, eh? Big surprise. Mark, at some point after each of these seasons that you pick Iowa as a "surprise" team or one of the "final four" of college football, maybe you should go live on the air and admit that you have a man-crush on Kirk Ferentz.

Re: Mark May picked Iowa.....

Mark May and Trev Alberts must have some sort of bet with everyone else in the sports media as to how many times they will pick Iowa in a row.

Re: Mark May picked Iowa.....

I believe Mark May picked Iowa to go to a New Year's Day bowl game before last season.

He can predict whatever he wants. It doesn't change the fact that the Iowa football team sucks. The only thing Iowa 2008 and Kansas 2007 have in common is that they are play two of the easiest schedules in the history of major conference football.

Exactly right...Mark May has no way to know how many of Iowa's players will be in jail during the season at this point!

By the way, why does anyone take anything he says seriously anyway?

Oh God no. Mark May, please leave Iowa alone. Stewart Mandel did something like this last year, and we all know how that went down.

I really wish the media would leave Iowa alone sometime. They didn't see 2002-2004 coming, and when they finally jumped on the bandwagon in 2005, it was too late; the trees in Ames began tilting to the east once again.

Re: Mark May picked Iowa.....

Maybe he sees something the rest of us don't. They should win 6-7 games just because they have a very easy schedule, but you could have said that last year too. 6 wins would surprise me, but not shock me. What did Kansas do last year? Lost 2 games and was very impressive in wins over a couple of good football teams. The problem is KS had a couple of real difference makers on offense and defense. All most all of Iowa's potential difference makers have been arrested in the last year.

Moeaki or possibly DJK have a CHANCE to be that guy, but they've got a noodle arm QB with turnstiles instead of O-linemen, and some huge question marks in the backfield. Kinda reminds me of a year or two ago with Meyer and Blythe.

Iowa returning 8 of 11 guys on offense isn't necessarily a good thing, considering how anemic their offense was last year, and 2 of the 3 guys that left were solid running backs.

If Iowa doesn't go to a bowl game this year with that schedule, it will be one of the worst teams in any BCS conference. period.
