Credits: 199,470 | Mark May picked Iowa..... as the Kansas-like surprise team of 2008. Unlike a decade ago where I would have thought- wow, Iowa might have a good team this year- believing they will win more than 6 or 7 games now is laughable.
It's just another comment by a national media type who tends to over rate the Hawkies this time of year. I have never understood the love affair.
Keep watching Mark.

I saw that on College Gameday about 2:30 this morning but was too lazy to post about it...I loved how he said their offense would be great because they return 8 of 11 and their quarterback Jake Christensen...that make me snicker. |

Kind of reminds me of a bumper sticker I've seen here in Des Moines with a Hawk logo and a tagline to the right reading "WE WILL RETURN".

Mark, at some point after each of these seasons that you pick Iowa as a "surprise" team or one of the "final four" of college football, maybe you should go live on the air and admit that you have a man-crush on Kirk Ferentz. |

He can predict whatever he wants. It doesn't change the fact that the Iowa football team sucks. The only thing Iowa 2008 and Kansas 2007 have in common is that they are play two of the easiest schedules in the history of major conference football. |

-keep. Exactly right...Mark May has no way to know how many of Iowa's players will be in jail during the season at this point!
By the way, why does anyone take anything he says seriously anyway?

I really wish the media would leave Iowa alone sometime. They didn't see 2002-2004 coming, and when they finally jumped on the bandwagon in 2005, it was too late; the trees in Ames began tilting to the east once again. |

They should win 6-7 games just because they have a very easy schedule, but you could have said that last year too. 6 wins would surprise me, but not shock me. What did Kansas do last year? Lost 2 games and was very impressive in wins over a couple of good football teams. The problem is KS had a couple of real difference makers on offense and defense. All most all of Iowa's potential difference makers have been arrested in the last year. |

All most all of Iowa's potential difference makers have been arrested in the last year. Moeaki or possibly DJK have a CHANCE to be that guy, but they've got a noodle arm QB with turnstiles instead of O-linemen, and some huge question marks in the backfield. Kinda reminds me of a year or two ago with Meyer and Blythe.
Iowa returning 8 of 11 guys on offense isn't necessarily a good thing, considering how anemic their offense was last year, and 2 of the 3 guys that left were solid running backs.
If Iowa doesn't go to a bowl game this year with that schedule, it will be one of the worst teams in any BCS conference. period.
