Re: Keno Davis to Providence?

This would be a great opportunity for Keno. Can you immagine the athletes he could get on the east coast to run that offense. I think he could kill at providence. If it's good enough for Rick Patino. It's good enough for Keno.

The Providence fans seem to like the prospect of hiring Keno.

The probablem is, at Providence you have to compete with 6 great teams, 6 really good teams, and three ok teams. In the MVC, if they get 3 in again, they only need to beat out 1 good team... and some average teams.

offering him a million a year to coach in the best conference in america. Making $220,000 now. No brainer! he's gone.

He said that IF Keno were to take the job he would HAVE to hire an entirely East Coast based staff to have any chance to recruit. With that said, if Keno takes the job, does he lob a call to Wayne? The example he used was the old Rutgers coach, came over from Kent State and tried to bring his Midwest based staff and failed miserably.
Exactly why I'd think he'd hesitate to take this job, the Big East is killer, he'd be going to the Baylor of the Big East, doesn't have a nationwide recruiting network yet. Give a few good years at Drake(consistent tourney apps) and he'd probably be able to parlay his success into a job at a program that already had quite a few pieces to compete with

Re: Keno Davis to Providence?

I think he should strike while the iron is hot.

I know that I sound like a Drake hater but I'm really not.

That being said I still say this dream season for Drake had all the cards stacked in their favor - bad in-state teams, MVC was horrible and the non-conference was easy. They were a senior laden team. I do think Davis is a good coach and decent recruiter, I don't think that this season will be duplicated for a while.

I think it would be a great move on Keno's part to hire Wayne. My only concern about Wayne at this point would be whether he kept in touch with his old contacts. But bringing Wayne on in a higher paying/lead assistant role would be an incredibly smart move in my opinion.

Re: Keno Davis to Providence?

Could it be a 2 for 1 deal...PC hires Davis, but only if they hire Cotlar for their play by play radio gig?
