With the Keno leaving news all but final, lets start some early talk about who Drake would go after. I honestly don't know much about their staff other than Keno, is anybody looking for a promotion within or will they follow Keno? Are there any other names or offspring from Drake's past about to surface?

Chris Davis would be the only one near ready to step in. I like Chris, he's a great, funny guy, but not head coach material yet. I think Woodley would be a great hire, keep Ohl on staff and I imagine Chris and Rozelle would move on.

I'm not sure either, but I wondering if promoting from within and trying hard to keep the current staff intact might not be the best way to go.

It's pretty late in the coaching carousel game for them to start looking. Dr. Tom is still on their AD's staff, he might return as interim coach for a year to give them time to groom an assistant or find someone else.

Yeah, I never thought about Woodley at Washington State. I know he does more of the recruiting though, I'm not sure what kind of heading coaching experience he has? He would probably bring his brother Andy, from Iowa City High.

I would hate to see the meltdown on this board if Drake hired Wayne and his Bulldogs came into Hilton next year and ran us out of the gym. This place would literally have to be taken offline for the night. | |

I have been reading a lot lately in our local newspaper about the coaching search going on at Western Illinois. The guy that ended up in second if you will, was Ray Harper who currently coaches at Oklahoma City University. He doesn't have any D-1 experience, but in three years at OCU he has went to all three title games winning two. Before that, he led Kentucky Wesleyan to five consecutive Division II championships, winning 2. He lacks the D-1 experience and not sure how well he recruits, but it sounds like he is a heck of a coach. He may be worth a look.
Steve Alford would also be a great fit. | |
