"It's the biggest single source of pride they've had in a long time. Ha, whatever, Jon. Who cares about Big 12 championships in basketball and wrestling? We beat Iowa! Whoo!

By the way, Congratulations on being Last Place for the Director's Cup for the Third Consecutive Year. What? Iowa obviously has not done the best, but they are far from last place overall. In fact, since the Director's Cup began in 1993, Iowa has never finished lower than Iowa State. I assume you must be talking Big 10 where they finished last the last two years.

The reality is that the hawks are almost never as good as their fans think they are.

I found this interesting: "Iowa is on the verge of finishing in last place among Big Ten teams in the Director's Cup, which ranks the nation's athletics programs, for the third consecutive school year."
So much for that big budget.

If it doesnt matter to Iowa and Iowa fans why does their hometown paper write about it so much? Why are the ticket prices for the game such a big deal? Isnt the goal of any team to win every game? ISU fan sat back for 15some years and had to listen to Iowa fans talk about how they beat us. Now that ISU is winning Iowa fans cannot take the smack. Part of the reason we give so much smack to Iowa fans is because of the way they treat us now and in the past. Even after 7 of 10 every year Iowa fans say there is no way ISU is going to beat us this year, it will be a blow out infavor of Iowa.
Now that we have the upperhand they make excuses: its our superbowl, Iowa overachieves, ISU overacheives, Iowa doesnt get up for the game, ISU gets up for it more than any other game, it defines ISU's season, the game doesnt matter to Iowa and on and on. At some point they have to realize its just like any game to these players and ISU may just be the better team, but they are slow learners so it may take anohter 10 years of ISU winning 7 of 10 to get them to realize this.

Here was a quote from Pollard, and I am curious what ISU fans think of it: "We understand that we are the little brother, trying to get mom and dad's attention from big brother." I agree in terms of funding, we're still little brother. I think the Mom and Dad are the big donors / Corporations out there that have money to donate. We need to get their attention and get their money coming into Ames.

So much for that big budget. Wow, the smallest public university in the Big Ten finishes last place among conference teams. Shouldn't this be expected?
And no offense, but I'm quite happy with three Big Ten championships (women's field hockey, women's basketball, and wrestling) and one national championship (wrestling). Last place, here we come!

So much for that big budget. All that means is that Iowa has the worst athletics program in the Big Ten for three years running. Not a big deal since that looks at the overall athletic program including golf, track, gymnastics, etc. You can't expect Iowa to compete in all those little sports; after all, they're a football school. We know this because they had a good football team six years ago.

Actually, what it means, is that the Big Ten has 8 teams in the top 25 of the standings. If Iowa was lucky enough to play in the Big 12, they'd be at #7 right now (ahead of Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Baylor.

I would be interested to see how Iowa's athletic funding compares to others in the big 10. I'm sure it's somewhere in the upper half.
And whoever said Iowa is last in the big 10 because they are the smalled school enrollment wise, that is the dumbest arguement ever.... Unless your whole team is composed of walk ons.

Regardless of funding, those schools with lesser funding are still higher in the standings than a lot of ACC, Pac 10, and Big 12 teams.
Using the Director's Cup standings as an argument is not in the favor of Big Ten bashers.

He calls my argument dumb, and then incorrectly spells the word "argument." And I'm pretty sure enrollment has plenty to do with athletic success; just ask Ohio State, Penn State, or Texas.

(Making fun of me for incorrectly spelling one word? What are you, 5?)
Edit: Also, USC (a private school to boot) with an enrollment of 32,000 sure as heck isn't having trouble in athletics. Pac-10 Conference - Conference of Champions Official Athletic Site.
Standford, enrollment 13,075, also has had much success in athletics (practically every sport but football).
