iowa used kicking Cyclone butt every year to bring the majority of the state to their side. Now we are trying to do the same back to them. There are only so many voices/pocketbooks in this state. There will always be a struggle for attention. We are fighting for the same limited resource. That will never change.

remember when you were a little kid and your older brother, cousin, etc. used to kick the hell out of you until one day you finally stepped up and punched them in the nose? that's why they hate him.

Bryce, do you live in eastern Iowa?

I ask because you say you root for the Hawks as well. Growing up and currently living in eastern Iowa makes that impossible for me. I get weekly reminders of why I hate them (the Hawks, not all Hawk fans). I have numerous Hawk friends who I love dearly but they frequently talk out of their ***.

I agree there is nothing wrong with us talking about them or them us. My point was that they say "I don't care about ISU", or "no one goes to the games, so why expand the stadium". They have much more issues to worry about than us expanding or Blythe not getting drafted. The fact that Pollard is trying to improve teams, facilities, etc is what we want and expect. If Pollard was at iowa, those people would be loving every minute of what he is doing and they would prob go to the Board of Regents and ask to name a state park after him. They can't stand that we aren't the whipping boy anymore and that Pollard is making things happen. Keep up the great work Jamie!

Now if only Iowa didn't suck in every sport that mattered we would be getting more help.

Jealousy, plain and simple. They have never had an AD that is so enthusiastic and that wants to mix things up. Iowa is so stuck in the past half of the time, they can't stand that we have someone getting us pumped up about the future.

No, I grew up in Boone, but most of my friends were Hawk fans then and a huge number of my friends are Hawk fans now. I don't talk trash but I think it's funny when they do and it doesn't bother me. The rivalry is supposed to be fun and the ribbing and talking out of one's *** mostly just amuses me.

Edit: Now my wife though, she hates the Hawks and would love to see nothing more than them lose every game that they ever play.

Hawk fans hate Pollard because they cannot purchase ISU-Iowa football tickets directly from the ISU ticket office without purchasing a season ticket. Other than that, they could really care less.

Now as far as the name being crude/childish - um...I've witness Cyclone fans, on this very site, say far worse about some Iowa folks.

I can't stand being in Cedar Rapids for any extended length of time, unless I don't leave the house and avoid all local media (which gets boring fast, leading to me not being able to stay for extended periods of time)

Buch of Hawk **** being crammed down your throat by the media.

I can't say I want the Hawks to lose EVERY game (as much fun as it is to see them squeal), because then beating them is no big deal, but I certainly like to see us beat them consistently

As for the Pollard hatred they're probally still just mad about the billboard Pollard put up after 2005

everyone has touched on it, but to reiterate it: They feel threatened and JP is keeping ISU in the news with positive stories.

The hawks should actually be happy that JP is taking up a lot of the headlines otherwise people might be digging a little more into the growing number of arrests over in Iowa City

Fearful and jealous. Put that together with insecurity and you get hate. If they truly believed in themselves they would be happy and not worry so much about what it means to them.
