Suckeyes is too much like the Buckeyes.

Squawkeyes is kinda funny. Although, it's old - like "Clowns" for ISU.

I think they wanted to explore the option of an upper deck due to the extremely high cost of adding it to the endzone once it is complete, as well as, the fact that the south endzone expansion would not increase capacity of the stadium without the addition and might restrict it more since you can really pack people in on the hills.
I understand that - I guess it's a Catch 22. On one hand, will the fans show up and fill it? On the other hand, if ISU does start selling out on a regular basis, it would be more expensive later.

I dunno, whatever works I guess. As long as tuition prices don't go up.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Must be from good stock, I read your old man is a vet. Glad to hear that you stick to your guns being outnumbered and so close to Iowa City. You are truly a pilgrim in an unholy land.

I have a feeling that if they do build the 2nd deck they won't allow hill seats on the north side anymore (would be a great spot for some scoreboards imo) so that they can fill in as many people as possible into actual seats.

Re: Why do Iowa Fans Hate Jamie Pollard so much?

I think it is purely fear on their part.

Jamie is not just trying to succeed here at Iowa State with winning teams.....he is literally trying to change the culture of Iowa State athletics. Let's face it....we have not had all that much success in the major programs and have even lagged in some of the minor ones. He is trying to change that. He is challenging the fans to support the teams with ticket purchases and with donations. He is trying to lay the groundwork for successful programs. He will make some mistakes, but he will also probably succeed in many areas. This is what I think scares Hawkeye fans.

For years, Iowa has been top dog in the state. Now, look at what has happened in the last few years. ISU is more than competitive against them each year in football, no matter what kind of year ISU is having otherwise. Basketball right now is about even, with both programs rebuilding. Wrestling looks like it will be competitive for years to come. Women's basketball is about even this year with a slight edge to ISU mainly because of the conference we are in. Then there is UNI. Look how far they have progressed in the last few years in football and basketball. And then this year......Drake even comes thru in basketball, for God's sake! I think all of this makes Iowa fans very uneasy.

Iowa fans do not really hate Jamie. They are just afraid that he might actually succeed......and that scares the hell out of them.

If you really look rationally at some of the things they say....it is laughable.........like......the whole ISU/Iowa football ticket thing. I laugh every time I read a thread about how Jamie was gouging the Iowa fans........well....I guess he did make those 4000 that got tickets pay a little extra. But so what? Any good businessman will make the most profit on his most popular product. Simple economics. Plus........Iowa shares in that gate.....so what is the problem? Then there is the old line that Iowa doesn't "get up" for the football game like ISU does because it does not mean as much to them. Yeah, right. Guess the same could be said for Western Michigan last year then too......all that was on the line there was a possible bowl for Iowa. That is such a stupid argument. Just an excuse. Plus, if the team doesn't get up for a rivalry game......shouldn't they be upset with their coach a little?

Anyway......I think they are worried. What we should do as ISU fans is don't get upset......just sit back, support our teams, give what money we can, and enjoy the ride.......wherever it takes us.
Oh, and now I see on some boards that they are blaming ISU fans for Allfraud. If you look at the threads on those boards, an awful lot of their fans use that name for him too. lol

First time I've ever heard that term on this site. Originally learned about it from HR.

Pollard = Hertz
Barta = Alamo

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

So far Barta has not had to make any tough decisions. The jury is still out in my books.[/quote]

I think Barta may have an interesting time after football season. It won't be decision time but it will be closer.

I'll give you EIU. But seriously, Pollfraud? It sounds like you're describing voter suppression in Ohio or Florida.

you are correct. Living in CR, I drove out of my way to look at it. I forgot about it. Seemed like the whole town was up in arms over that. I loved it!!

Re: Why do Iowa Fans Hate Jamie Pollard so much?

Personally, I think Hayden Fry was the best AD that the Hawks ever had (yeah, I know he was the football coach, but hear me out).

Before Fry comes around, Iowa and ISU were on fairly equal footing - both pretty bad. Other than a brief run here and there by the ISU football team the Iowa men's B-ball team, and both wrestling teams, it was pretty bad.

Then Fry comes along. His #1 priority every year was to beat Iowa State. Actually, beat's not strong enough of a word - more like beat the living **** out of Iowa State. And it's not because he viewed Iowa State as something special or that we were a stepping stone to greater success. It's because he got one very important thing - $$$ is what fuels the success of an athletic department. And Fry realized that if he wanted Iowa to have a successful football program, he had to make it such that ISU was irrelevant and the entire state only paid attention to Iowa. Now certainly we didn't help matters by not being able to put together a team that won more than 6 games in a year. And as we're finding out, success in the football department usually drives success in all areas of the athletic department (not saying all programs are good, but all programs are very well funded). During that period of time, with the exception of mens' basketball, Iowa owned us in virtually every sport. 25 years later we're STILL for the most part in that hole. Of course the game doesn't mean much anymore - they've had almost guaranteed fame and funding across the state for a quarter of a century. But here's why Iowa fas are worried - because all of that work that Fry put in to ensuring that Iowa was the top dog across the state is starting to become for not. WE now have the AD that realizes that Iowa is the most important game on the schedule. Not because winning that game makes or breaks our season, but because it's the key to funding. 10 years ago Iowa fans weren't worried about ISU expanding the south side of the stadium or building a practice facility for the basketball team because they KNEW we would never be able to do so because we would never be able to raise the funds to do so. Even as close as 5 years ago when we put up the football practice facility there wasn't the same kind of fear. But Pollard has changed all that. Pollard isn't intimidated by the so-called-Goliath that resides in Iowa City, and that scares Iowa fans to no end because they are afraid that Pollard is gonna go "David" on them. Pollard isn't afraid to place billboards or take tours across the state to raise awareness for ISU. He isn't afraid to force Iowa to purchase season tickets if they want them. He isn't afraid to go after the donors that Iowa has counted on for a quarter of a century. I'll give Iowa fans one bit of credit here - this thing IS about them. Why? Because they hold all the $$$. There's only so much $$$ around the state, and if we want it, we've gotta take it from them. And it starts with taking the Hayden Fry mentality of humiliating the in-state rival and turning it 180 degrees back on them. This is why I'll never agree with the argument that all our teams should drop Iowa off the schedule and schedule someone else in their place. If that happens, Iowa wins because their funding is then secure. The only way we will be able to pull the $$$ out of the Iowa athletic program and into ours is by doing it consistently on the field. Not because it makes or breaks our season, but because it's what puts more and more $$$ into our athletic program. Both Pollard and Iowa fans know this (although for the Iowa fans it's probably more subconscious) - and it scares Iowa fans to no end.

Don't really hate him or fear him at all. But apparently, I'm "full of it," so I guess my opinion is null and void. Continue on.

I don't know about that... I'm pretty upset with him for letting Alford get away.

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.
