Players change all the time, and Jiri is a prime example. GMac almost sent him back to the Czech Republic, but there seemed to be more of a willingness to work with him by the coaching staff than Freeman was given.
How many teams run off a third team all-conference performer, even if that conference is the Big 11??? BTW, I'd take Freeman on our team. The Hawks still owe us for Haluska. Are you forgetting about Alex Thompson?

Although AT hasn't panned out like we had hoped, he will certainly get his chance this year, and I'm not ready to throw him under the bus just yet.
We still need "a player to be named later" to finalize the Haluska trade...maybe Freeman will be that guy.

Freeman isn't a bad player, but he'd take up our only schollie for '09-10. I can't see that happening.
I have to admit that I lost some respect for Lickliter when he signed a couple of really unathletic players last fall, then added even more wings in the spring without any help in the post. Booting a senior like this diminishes my respect even more.

Either Lickliter is crazy like a fox, or dumb as a post. Either way, he apparently has HUGE onions. Well, he did come to Iowa City. |

The last few lines, Freeman says something to the effect that Lick didn't tell him to leave, but just basically said he doesn't fit the system.
When you are building a program, you can't have a senior leader not willing to buy into the coaches program. And out of fairness to Tony, Lick told him he'd probably have better luck next year. It's harsh, but it's D-I basketball. I think it's better than Freeman expecting to be a starter and then riding the pine. That can cause all sorts of problems within the team.
I don't think there is anything "shady" about it - Lick didn't like the way Tony played, Tony wasn't willing to adjust, and Lick wanted to move on.
Let's be honest. It's Iowa basketball, not D-I basketball. It hasn't been real D-I basketball since Dr. Tom was forced out.
In the interest of full disclosure, I did like the Hawks with Dr. Tom. I loved that style of play. But I was still a Cyclone 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and more |

There is just something real fishy about this whole deal. I don't buy that Licklighter asked him to leave because, if that was actually the case, why didn't he do it a whole lot earlier so as to not throw a total curve ball into the middle to end of th recruiting time????

Does anyone think going D-II would hurt a guy's chances of playing professionally anywhere?? I hear Indiana is looking for players.

Have we ruled out the "Shane Power situation" as the reason for the transfer?

Now, i wonder where he is going to go. Stay in division 1 or go down a division and play right away.
