Not a whole lot. I completely agree.
However, we still have another 3 months or so of this type of nonsense showing up on messageboards until fall camps start up. |

Just wait until I talk to the Texas fans I know and let them know that they're our equals. |

The facts are that both teams have a weak schedule this year with Iowa's being statistically weaker (and this doesn't mean much now) and both teams haven't had the kind of success the last few seasons that they would like. There's not a whole lot to it.
Would Iowa State fans care if they went 8-4 with the worst SOS of all BCS teams and Iowa went 5-7 with a top ten schedule, or do you still think some of our fans would gloat? |

A comparison using last year's records, which were comprised of last year's rosters, applied to this year's schedules...I guess that that's what it is, factually, but here is another fact; it doesn't mean jack squat...but by all means, gloat about it. I mean, that some kind of scoreboard, right? 'our 2008 slate, when you look at last year's opponents winning percentage with several players that won't take the field this year is stronger than yours!' ...that's kind of hard to fit on a t-shirt, so I guess this post will have to do. |

So I think expecting to be in the top 35 annually or higher is a reasonable expectation given the success historically of the program. I'm not so sure that I would brag very loudly about being #35 in a listing that has football powerhouses such as Army, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, and Minnesota ranked ahead of me.

I'd take that on a t-shirt over what plenty of Iowa players have to have on their shirt.....their prison number. |

I'm assuming you missed the part of my post where I said the statistically weaker schedule didn't mean much right now. Unless you were trying to completely agree with me, in which case you had a weird way of doing it.
The fact that Iowa's schedule is statiscally the weakest isn't something for anyone to gloat about; it's just an interesting fact. The weak schedule will not hurt them unless they're in contention for a national championship. We've already witnessed that they will be chosen over more deserving teams in bowl games in which computers do not make the selection, so more power to them.

While I'm not saying Iowa State has the toughest schedule in the world, they obviously don't, you have to admit that Maine and Florida International are about the two easiest teams back to back on any D-1 schedule I've ever seen. Iowa should easily beat either one with their second or third string playing. South Dakota State should be beatable for Iowa State, but they did beat NDSU, the top rated 1A last year. And Kent State and UNLV is at a different level from either of those two teams. A legimiate D-1 school should beat all three. We'll see if Iowa State is in that catagory yet.

Really though, I do think that both Iowa and ISU can/will take advantage of it this year. Maybe it's just some major wishful thinking, but I'd really like to see both teams do well. It's much more fun debating football and what not when both teams are winning.
