Re: Who has the edge?

Overall, a pretty good take by LifetimeHawk.

I think the matchups are mostly a wash, except for the obvious strengths and weaknesses.

It's interesting this year in that ISU's strength (running game) looks to be Iowa's weakness, and Iowa's strength (defensive front 7) looks to be ISU's weakness.

It makes for a couple interesting strength vs. strength and weakness vs. weakness battles. The winners there will decide this game, imo.

Cyclones return all four starters, who are all good athletes with speed, the Hawks a pair of average (at best) safeties.

ISU has as big an edge in the secondary as Iowa will at DL and linebacker--Coleman, along with Clayborn and Ballard, are about to be stars.

As far as receivers, Hamilton, Sumrall, Brodell and Moeaki are all certainly established, so it's still a push.

Our kickers and your kickers are all pretty equivalent--Brandtner was punting to a short field most of the time, and each team is counting on freshmen as placekickers.

They could suit up Randy Moss and Terrell Owens and it wouldn't matter. How many catches would they make when their quarterback can't do anything but stand in one place holding the ball until he gets sacked?

Iowa Hawkeye All-Stars, 2007-2008: Ryan Bain, Ricky Stanzi, Dana Brown, Tyler Gerstandt, Arvell Nelson, Bradley Fletcher, Dana Brown (x2), Ben Evans, Arvell Nelson (x2), Dominique Douglas, Anthony Bowman, Clint Huntrods, Lance Tillison, Dana Brown (x3), Dominique Douglas (x2), Brandon Myers, Ryan Donahue, Arvell Nelson (x3), James Cleveland, Cody Hundertmark, Cedric Everson, Abe Satterfield, Riley Reiff welcome to the club, who will be next???

I don't know, while I can understand not trading Hamilton or Sumrall, it's kind of silly to say that you would trade a Freshman for either DJK or Brodell. I mean, they are pretty darn good receivers, and do have 2.5 years of experience between the two of them.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

Didn't Jimmy Johnson run off the experienced guys in Dallas, because their experience was losing experience?

If your experience doesn't include catching the ball, are you really an experienced receiver?

Reap the Wirbelsturm!!!

I wouldn't include DJK or Brodell in that equation. That's more of a Trey Stross sort of deal ;)

Re: Who has the edge?

As far as receivers go I think it is a lot like when in basketball Iowa had Smith as a freshman and Iowa State had Johnson. Both sets of fans would tell you that they had the better of the two.

Iowa's top receiver had better numbers than any ISU receiver in HALF A SEASON and yet ISU has the edge? THAT's retarded.

Yes, I'm an ISU Alum and Hawkeye fan...get over it.

Excuse my ignorance but DJK only played half a season...

But he fumbled enough times that it counts as several years of experience.

Re: Who has the edge?

So I went and looked at some 2007 statistics and I'm still not sure what you were getting at.

Hamilton Rec: 45 Yards: 534 Ave: 11.9 TD: 1
Sumrall Rec: 54 Yards: 434 Ave: 8.00 TD: 0

DJK Rec: 38 Yards: 482 Ave: 12.7 TD: 2
Brodell Rec: 13 Yards: 96 Ave: 7.4 TD: 0

When all is said and done, more is said than done

Yeah, I screwed up. I just noticed those stats from the first page were Brodell's 2006 numbers. I'd still take Iowa's WRs over ISU's though.

Re: Who has the edge?

This is stupid.

Both teams sucked last year.

FWIW....I am going with Sedrick Johnson to be the suprise receiver of the two teams. And yes...I know he hasn't played a down. I just know he is strong, tall, fast and can jump just as high as Rashon Clark.

Oh I see, no big deal, I was just confused more than anything. As an aside I'll still take ISU's over Iowa's.
