CNN story on U of I

They were just talking about the flooding on Iowa's campus. Classes are on hold of a few weeks. How does this affect the FB team school wise since summer schools is used to get kids needed credits?

They also said 75% of nurses in the state graduate from U of I and 80% of teachers do. Dont these numbers seem a bit high. And remember this college is important to EVERYONE in the state.

It is a bad deal the campus is flooded but lets get your facts straight.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

I thought UNI was the place that many of the teachers came from.

Those numbers do seem high. If they are talking about nurses getting their BSN or above then they might be right. I'd think that RN would be lower. There are a lot of programs out there for RNs.

When I think of teaching I think of UNI. I'm sure there are quite a few that go to Iowa and Iowa State, but I'd think UNI is best known for that.

I'm curious what will happen for the fall session. My wife and I know a girl that will be a freshman there this fall. I'm just wondering if the reconstruction will affect where classes meet or what are offered.

What ever happened to truth, justice and the American Way?

Are they talking about 80% of teachers getting their Masters or Doctorate? That could be right, but not for their undergrad work. That seems way off.

Through the fire and the flames we'll carry on.

Yeah, that doesn't seem right. That would mean that UNI and ISU and all other out of state schools only provide 20% of the teachers, and that makes no sense. Honestly I would find it hard to believe 50%.

Wouldn't be the first time CNN got the facts wrong? Did they declare the 80% based on actual numbers or was that based on exit polls with 0% in?

You're right. These facts are totally wrong. Everybody knows that 75% of nurses and 80% of teachers in the WORLD graduate from EIU. I am going to write a strongly worded letter to someone to fix this complete fabrication of the truth!

That subtitle is just hilarious. Of course I have an EE degree from ISU, so not everyone may find it that funny.

The nurse stat could be correct. The teacher stat.... Not so much. The teacher ed program at Iowa is bad. I find it nearly impossible to believe that statistic, which I think was the biggest issue in those numbers.

Through the fire and the flames we'll carry on.

none of the teachers in my highschool went to Iowa. Those numbers can't be right. a lot of teachers come from wartburg college though

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.

"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

Just be glad that Iowa is in the news for something other than the VEISHEA riots or cacuses...

Oh wait

My comment to my dad was "You guys are making national news - the world must be coming to an end out there"

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

I would think that 80% of the states teachers may come from state funded schools in the state of Iowa (Iowa State, Iowa, UNI). Not just one school. That number seems much more realistic.

That is hilarious. It's been a while but if I remember correctly the speed of light is 186,300 miles per second so that shuttle was cooking right along at 1,207,224,000 mph.

No wonder the SOB crashed........

Here's a Press-Citizen article on the fall semester. It sounds as if classes in art and music will likely be the most affected.
