U of I loses largest residence hall

The University of Iowa just lost Mayflower, its largest dorm, due to flooding. Mayflower houses mostly freshmen. Their dorm capacity has now dropped from 5,468 beds to 4,442. That's quite a bit smaller than Iowa State's 7,738 residence hall beds.

Haha that's just classic. The mayflower got sunk in the raging flood waters. (SARCASM)

That does seem a bit ironic.
I'm sure they'll be able to move students around various dorms and apartments as they get closer to August.

Wow, super classy.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

...

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

Come on Scottie! You must have all posts pre-approved by the "hawkeyes on a cyclone site committee" prior to posting. Geesh.

I suppose they will impose a fine on me for not heeding my own advice, but hey, get that coach a pay raise!

And no, I do not condone Scottie's comments.

Re: U of I loses largest residence hall

Sad. I drove by there almost everyday when I grew up there. While tragic the community is letting out a collective sigh of relief that no bars or athletic facilities were damaged. That would have been a real heartbreak.

I had some good times in Mayflower while I visited back in my college years.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

Hey, I may take jabs at the Clones from time to time but I sure as hell don't make fun of students losing their homes in the flood.

Yes, I'm an ISU Alum and Hawkeye fan...get over it.

I think that is funny, even if others don't have a sense of humor. It's not like most of those kids don't have time to change schools if they dislike the living arrangements.

Do or do not, there is no try .....Yoda
