Hawkeye Fans Consider Loss to ISU to be "crushing"

They're generally good guys at BHGP, but I found this response pretty good.

Worst Loss in 08 if it Happens - ISU or Minnesota

ISU's at home and early in the year, so if Iowa drops that, the season's done, finished, over. Right then and there. There's no coming back for a winning BXI campaign if the Clowns win. In that sense, ISU must necessarily be the "worst" loss in terms of the effect it'll have on the team. Meanwhile, Minnesota's a road game late in the year, when ****** teams either have given up and can't win at all, or are gutting their way through a resurgence and are awfully dangerous. Since Iowa won't be losing in the first scenario, the second is your most likely answer, and it can't be as damaging as losing to ISU, since there isn't much more of a season for it to affect. Nonetheless, Minny ******* sucks, and losing to them will signify something very wrong with the program too. But we'll have probably seen that already at that point in the season.

ISU. It's at home. It's the killer September loss that could end this thing before it begins. Minnesota has some young talent at its disposal; Iowa State is using sorority girls on the defensive line. As bad as either loss would be, ISU is far, far worse.

ISU - Losing at the Gophers would hurt, but losing to the Clones at home would be crushing. Not just because we're better than them, but because I hate them and another year of listening to their fans brag about a win would force me to leave the state for good.
Worse for me – Minnesota. Worse for Iowa – ISU. While Iowa has no reason losing to the Gophers up in Kinnick North, they REALLY have no business losing at home to a bunch of pansies from a community college in Ames. [Insert comment from some ISU fan – "ISU has like a 25 game winning streak against Iowa. Iowa sucks – getting beat by little brother. HAHAHAH LOLOL1!!!!1! Suckeyes are going down. ISU owns Iowa!!"] Yep. That’s what we’ll be hearing if the Hawks lose. Let’s just not let that happen. So if I have to pick between the worst team in the Big 12 or the worst team in the Big 10, I’ll take the out-of-conference team.

But the ISU game doesn't matter, only conference games matter to them....so we've been told.

wow they really have nothing better to do.. and how can they even say we are a far worst team then them? how do they figure? and when they say its a home game which prison will the game be played at?

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

I'm going to go ahead and rate this thread as 5 stars, as I know its only a matter of time before one of the Hawk fans on this site rates it as 1 star, just like every other Iowa related thread.

WAIT A MINUTE - are they saying losing to us would be worse than dropping the opener to Maine? I think Hawkeye Nation at that point would stop casually overlooking the fact that KF isn't exactly earning his keep and be lighting flares and sharpening pitch forks. I thought the ISU game didn't mean anything? Losing to us isn't a big deal, right? I think if Iowa lost their first game most Hawk fans wouldn't say "oh well, first game jitters - they'll bounce back and win 10 games and play on Jan. 1" Hell No! They would be pissed that they missed out on the national title game yet another year.

I think the choice was limited to ISU or Minnesota. I'd have to disagree with them though, because the last time they lost at home to ISU, they didn't lose to anyone else. So maybe they should hope to lose to ISU .

Ah yes, I suppose I overlooked the fact that we are comparing ISU and Minnesota. I'm thinking depending on how the Hawks are sitting record wise would depend which loss could be worse. Obviously losing to us would set a bad tone at the beginning of the season. However, if the Minnesota game makes a breaks a bowl season - or weighs on the type of bowl - then it could be the worse loss.

How many years of them sucking will it take before they lose their unjustified arrogance? Apparently, a long, long time.

JOIN THE NATIONAL CYCLONE CLUB!
“If we truly want to do this, this is the time to step up. Iowa State University has 175,000 living alumni. If one-of-every-10 living alumni joined the National Cyclone Club at the minimum level of $100, we could finance $30 million worth of construction." Jamie Pollard

I think they'd consider anything short of at least the Alamo bowl a bad season.

exactly. why do they think they will be any better this year with the players they have coming back. they weren't any good last year, so they just have an extra year of experience of being bad.

Cy-onara, Hawks! (from CR Gazette after ISU win over Iowa in 2002)

Wow, just wow. Some of us (myself included) are often guilty of drinking too much Cardinal-tinted Kool-Aid, but those guys must be huffing black and gold spray paint.

I remember on an episode of COPS once they busted some guy with one tooth who was huffing spray paint. He had gold flaked all over his face around his nose and mouth, and a paper bag (no doubt left over from that morning's 40 of Steel Reserve) filled with gold spray paint. As the cops released him to his brother (four teeth) one cop said "I don't know what it is, but these guys seem to prefer the gold spray paint."

Patrick who?

These seem like some pretty uninformed eiu fans. Loses to ISU don't generally make for bad seasons for the hackeyes in their inferior league.

Don't let the green grass fool you. Don't let it change your mind.
