I think what he needs now is support - not bashing. I'm older and still remember watching the famous overtime game between the Chiefs and the Dolphins...Podalak had a hell of a game -- did everything he could to win it for KC, but it wasn't meant to be.
Get well.

Go to AA and keep your job, retire, or be fired? I honestly don't know, but that's the first thing that came to me when I heard about this. Society has kind of programmed us to assume that scenario, I think.

I have heard the rumors that Podolak has been a lot less than sober at the Hawkeye broadcasts. But if I were a Hawkeye I would want to be drunk all the time too.
That being said, Podolak has a certain public image to maintain. He does represent the University of Iowa whether he works for them or not. It was stupid of him to conduct himself in that way in a very public place. I know he was just having fun and didn't hurt anybody. But public perception is a very big part of his job. He should have known better.

Couldn't Kirky just have ordered DJK to photo shop to pictures to make it look like Eddie was looking at Herky or something? I thought it was part of DJk's job to clean up Hawkeye messes, especially ones involving females?

It's going to get to the point where you aren't going to be able to have your picture taken in public for fear of what facebook profile it's going to show up on and who is going to use it to attack, or just innocently post because you thought it was entertaining. There is no slope, putting something on Facebook is similar to standing on a street corner and doing the same thing.

If Hawkeye fans need to be drunk off of Budweiser to enjoy games, I can't imagine the astronomical sales numbers of Everclear in Story County during the fall. | | |

He could have kept his job, but was too stubborn to admit a problem and get help.
I don't feel sorry for him.

So is the other guy going to retire as well? He is the one that is losing it.

These weren't posted by Ed, on Ed's facebook page.
Anybody, anywhere, anytime can take a photo of you in public, with or without you knowing and THEY can put it on THEIR facebook page and if you have any sort of public position, a firestorm can ensue.
You don't even have to be sloppy drunk, one photo, capturing just one instant in time, with no context can look pretty bad. As someone who has a job visible to the public, this is pretty scary and could easily happen to me or anyone really.
