This may seem ridiculous but I would like too see students charged by degree. All degrees should be priced according to what the market calls for so enineering would be more and something like education less.So adjust it for four year tuition or whatever the degree should take to complete. This way you place a large incentive for graduating early because they could begin repayment. There are far too many kids going to school far too long for what they are getting. It shouldn't be too much to ask to get someone through there with one degree in four years. I was a double major and made it in 4 years with a transfer.

how very socialist of you

i don't have a problem with charging by degree, but it should be how much it costs the school to provide that major, not potential earning power of the degree

Or someone from higher up the totem pole (looking at you US Dept of Education) needs to figure out that 90% of the electives I'm required to take are a total waste of time for my to get my accounting degree. I have 30+ credits of totally useless crap which is hitting me in tuition, and hitting all of us that pay taxes.

You're at a university, not a trade school. The purpose of a university is to provide you with a well rounded education, not simply to train you to perform a job. If all you are looking for is job training, you could obtain that somewhere else than a university for a lot less money and time. Personally, I'd much rather be someone with a broad-based education, but that's just me.

I'd agree, which is why it would be nicer if employers would hire more people with the training, but not the BA/BS. It is a job ticket more than job training for many.

The problem is most trade schools do not provide the type of education required to get into professional fields. I have no problem with a broad based education, even though I really don't feel like I got one at ISU. I do have a problem with forcing people to pay thousands of dollars to get one when they don't want it.
