The fact that they are cutting wrestling now, but have zero timeline for adding baseball (other than wanting to, eventually), should tell you all you need to know about their administration.

Shocking. A dying sport had a school drop a dying team?!? Shocking.
C'mon man! You're better than that. Look at where nationals is going to be for the next few years. The sport has come a long ways from the days of being hosted in the UNI Dome.

Just looked at their roster, not a whole lot of talent on it, thought maybe we get could a transfer, but don't know if it's worth it.

Wrestling is regularly expanding at every level except D-1. (Fresno State just restarted their program, though.) The 800-pound gorilla that is football, along with Title IX, will prevent other schools from adding or restarting programs with AD funds.

Smaller-division schools and NAIA are adding wrestling, because the schools need the tuition money. Some of them are also adding women's programs.

In the case of Boise, the university president has a hard-on for baseball and the local minor-league team has a new ballpark in the works. So he gets his pet project taken care of at the expense of an already-established program. University politics at its finest.

Dude...eat a Snickers. First you bag on ISU basketball...now wrestling. How about a positive every now and then.

Budget cuts at most state universities are going to bring many sports under the potential chopping block over the next few years. Think about the overall state of college athletics if football wasn't bringing in the $'s that it is...

I think the piece your missing is the is a project underdevelopment in downtown Boise to build a new minor league baseball stadium that would be shared stadium with Boise State baseball. Timing on stadium is yet to be determined so its hard for them to say when they will begin baseball.

I think you are missing many of the details. First wrestling in Idaho is way down the list at the high school level both in quality and in interest. Baseball is a much bigger sport in Idaho High Schools. The other big consideration is wrestling isn't part of Mountain West, Boise State had to wrestle in Pac 12. BSU was/is one of the only if not the only Mountain West school without baseball.

Not sure how the facts make it university politics....

Baseball being the president's "pet project" -- and he used those words himself -- make it university politics. He also has stated that baseball could be added without violating Title IX. And yet, here we are.

The "only school without baseball" argument is merely a weak attempt at rationalizing the decision.

There is a difference in being able to fund it and meet title ix

But they did have a top 100 recruit who is a senior in Heavyweight Kevin Vough. He chose Boise St over Campbell, Virginia, and Princeton. I wonder if our staff was ever in contact with him? He's potentially a solid heavyweight.

Just think...a lot of people wanted them in the Big 12.

If we can't recruit a baseball team, how the hell is Bosie going to do it?

And that was their only tenuous connection to P5 status. I know the affiliate schools in the Big XII are extremely proud to be able to say they have that connection. Given Boise's history you'd think they would also love that bit of legitimacy.

Boise had a new coaching staff this year, and now are throwing them under the bus (along with the wrestlers)--all who had the expectation of a program.

At one time, we were talking with Kevin Hough. Not sure how serious though
